Impact crimpers suck

I have used hammer crimpers but they are highly susceptible to technique and NEVER as good as something that crimps from all sides. I think they're great for what they are but most people building a system with large (aka expensive) wire should just add the cost of a proper crimper to their budget which is probably in the many hundreds or thousands to begin with.

Ive bashed it on the floor with a hammer plenty of times, but my favorite / most acceptable way to use the hammer crimper is slowly, in my shop press. 🤷‍♂️

...but you can't beat the satisfaction of really whacking something with a 4 lb drilling hammer
I can attest technique is critical as not to cold weld a finger to a concrete slab.
Hesitation due to fear of whacking your hand can take the wallop out of a swing
(or in my case sandstone slabs being cut with a chisel to fit in a patio or walkway)

I find a hammer crimper useful for a temporary "fix" until I can get my electrician son-in-law to bring over his crimper
(right away can turn into weeks)

My only fear of the hydraulic crimpers is the cheap ones on Amazon, the dies felt way undersized.

The mm to awg equivalent was way off, even dropping down one die to the next size didn’t seem right, I had to go both dies the next size down. I used both the 1/0 dies to crimp 2/0 sleterm lugs before I felt comfortable.

I guess that’s the equivalent to whacking the impact crimper 3-4 more times and then saying “that’s not going anywhere “.

Partially true.
Just use a size smaller.
Shrink wrap hides all manner of sins..

stick to Temco or other quality crimpers and branded lugs and you won't produce wings or loose connection.
