Off topic, EV vehicle opinions…

Highly educated turned out to be a dud, as a lot of highly educated people quickly lined to up recieve their genetic goo aka "vaccines" during the Covid scamdemic.
Same thing for EVs.
As i said, let them stand on their own merit, without being mandated by govt cronies.
If they can survive on the market on their own - great.
(But its not looking like it)

The newer models aren't using the older battery chemistry that was prone to burning. Plus, it's not like there aren't Car-b-ques for ICE vehicles. They just don't get the press that EV fires do.
The cars in the videos I posted are brand new. One of them was a loaner from the dealership while their car was in for repair. It is clear you don't watch the videos as that is talked about in the video itself.

Nah, lots of people would have EVs without any government intervention. I'm with you on the government side, but on the people liking EVs thing you're just plain wrong.

Then why is Tesla laying off a good chunk of the work force. Why did sales start to fall off when the .gov money went away.

Battery fires are real. That being said:

There was a cop here was in a Crown-vic spent a whole lot of time in the burn unit rebuilding his face. I met the man, it was a big deal, not an ideal car for a rear-end accident. Fuel tanks used to be behind the seat in pickup trucks. Always nice to drive with a Molotov Cocktail behind your head. Airplanes used to crash not infrequently. "Unsafe at any speed".

The point? Somehow the young people seem to think that everything must be perfect as soon as you bring it to market or you shouldn't have it at all. As these issues crop up engineers will correct or mitigate the effects of the problems, and to that point, my Kona has had a recall replacing the batteries for this very problem. Somehow battery = dangerous, Tank with 10+ gallons of a liquid volitile = safe?

The last 20 'car-b-que's here in phoenix were all ICE vehicles. YMMV, we do need to address training and other issues around battery fires vs liquid volatiles.

Sure it was a Crown Vic, that was a tried and true design. Now if you said it was one of the new Ford SUV's I would agree with you 100%. They are pure garbage for patrol work.

About a year ago here at the office we had a ford decide to catch on fire on the way to a call, for roughly the next 60 days I work in LE, I retire at the first of July, so I have been doing this for a bit of time.

The fun thing is when the car burns is you loose everything, no steering, no brakes, not even the Ebrake. It is ALL computer controlled. And when the computer is like my wife likes her stake, well done it does not doo things that well. He was lucky to coast to the side of the road, pulled his computer, rifle, a few things out of the back and that was about it. They are pure junk. I think someone from Boeing designed them.

I don't generally see PURE gas cars just bursting into flames, hybrids and pure electric yes.

So many people seem to call hybrids "ICE" cars, well no they are not in the most strict def. If it has that stack of batteries, it is a very real danger. Gas cars generally don't just catch fire sitting in your garage.

Here you guys go, this is a pretty rough video, so I suggest you don't play it with young ones around.

Here we see the Chinese labor model in Africa in action. This is all to keep the raw materials coming for you to feel good about yourself and your electric car.

Again this is a real rough video, and it is accurate.

Propaganda is a useful tool

It is accurate, you may not want to believe it, but we know it is true.
No, I just don’t see how on the other side of the world I should sit on a pedestal and pretend that my singular purchase will make a difference. I don’t see why I should ignore the flailing members of society in my own country so that some guy on the solar forum feels validated in sharing a propaganda piece meant to pull at emotional coat tails but not actually even try to solve anything.

To put it more bluntly, I don’t care as I am powerless to make a difference and have zero ability to find the true rationale behind how other country’s economy’s function

Videos designed for emotional response = propaganda

A slow down in EV sales does not equal zero EV sales. Still plenty of people buying them.

You are ideologically driven, not factually driven. It's tiresome.

Fewer people are buying them, it drops as the .gov money drops. And you think there is a market for more?

The FACT is the sales are down. This means that fewer people are buying them. What the article does not go into is just how many are new to the EV and how many are dropping an EV for another newer EV. I have a feeling that the new people to an EV is going to be a very interesting number.

Your eyes are closed. If this was something that people wanted you would not be seeing that kind of decline. People might not trade in a car when they are not "ready" to just to get an EV. But when people decide to get a new car the number of people opting for an EV is lower then it was a year ago, that is another fact. That is not the way it should be going if they are that great.

How many petrol vehicles are sitting at dealer lots with price cuts? You act as if new vehicle sale declines are only affecting one segment

Your singular purchase does everything. If people walked away from these things the things in that video would not be going on. And China would not own half of africa. You do know how they are working in africa don't you.....likely not.

How many US military installations are in Africa? Didnt both the French and American armed forces get asked to leave MULTIPLE country’s.
To pretend you have an iota of understanding in international affairs is laughable.

China is not the boogeyman. Ask yourself why China and Russia are moving in after decades of western mismanagement in the African continent

Teslas do have brake pads. Are they not applied by pressure on the pedal, rather only under computer control?

Some, apparently:

"Do Tesla Cars Use Hydraulic Brakes?
Some Tesla vehicles use hydraulic brakes, but not all of them. Recently, vehicles equipped for full self-driving have come with Brembo fully-electric brakes. These brakes use electric actuators instead of hydraulic fluid pressure to actuate."

Steering? Is that fly by wire?

Don't think so.
Heavy when power steering isn't active. If that only makes low-speed steering difficult during parking but it is steerable at speed, could be OK. But some people report difficulty while driving.
"locking", if true, like what mechanically locks in conventional cars when key turned off, would be a problem if it can happen under computer control.

YIKES!!! That's a lot of clams for just one company and not for an entire industry.
Exxon mobile's revenue was $345B in 2023, it received $5B in subsidies or 1.5% of revenue. Do not get me wrong, I think it should be ZERO, but the majority of the 'subsidies' are tax breaks by local governments to get a plant built, or for location development. One of the problems with raw numbers is sometimes we lose sight of the meaning when the scale gets large. A billion dollars for an Exxon Mobile sized company is almost a rounding error. But it sounds better when the news bimbot sez, "Exxon mobile got a billion dollar windfall profit" than "Exxon mobile got a windfall increase in profit well under 1/2 of 1% of total revenue". It's that propaganda thing again, and people generally don't look.

My paycheck last week was $340, but this week it was $345! That's Nice!

True, but when you see businesses saying I refuse to sell these that sends a very different message. When you see articles saying that Ford taking a 100k plus loss on EVERY EV it tells you that it is not a good business model.

The economy is pure garbage, that much most people will agree with. People don't buy big ticket things when they don't have money. We are starting to see interest rates come down on cars, that will get some movement, but I don't think it will be enough.

You will not see an increase in the percentages unless people get a spear in the back or candy.

You clearly do not read my posts.

I was talking about a patrol vehicle that is gas alone.

NOTHING to do with a tesla.

What does us military installations have to do with china grabbing African resources off the backs and sweat of the african people.

You are really clueless as to just how the world works, and you don't want to know as that would upset your apple cart.

As to China being the boogieman, well they have a great many issues at home as well.

Guys, don’t buy EVs! Working conditions in China aren’t always perfect

As I type on my Chinese made phone with my Chinese made battery that’s charged by my Chinese manufactured inverter and Chinese solar panels with my Chinese cup in my cup holder passing street signs made with Chinese steel

Spare me.

And then you bring up Africa!?!? Our country has experimented on millions of Africans. We are not any better
