EG4 Pro Series

Got the trench done today. I also found a water line?

Still have to add the PV disconnects and pull wire back.

We don’t have any gas lines or power lines underground here.

The original owner of the house taped into the water main and ran that water line 500ft to the garden back there. He did not install a cut off in between so I had to shut the water off to the house to fix it

I broke a 2" water line in a commercial building once. Coincidentally it was directly below a main panel, and spraying it profusely. I had to grab the broken piece and hold it over the water for a solid 3-4 minutes while everybody scrambled to find where the shutoff was... Yes, nobody knew where it was.

That wasn't fun.

Oh wow

Just a couple weeks ago I had a wet spot in the back yard. This place has water lines everywhere with no logic on many of them. I carefully peeled it back with the excavator until I found the line then hand dug around it until I found the leak. Everything's cool so far. Shut off the water then was going to dig a little pit on one side the let the standing water drain away from the pipe I gotta fix. This is clay here so the water stands in a hole for hours. As Pyle would say, surprise surprise surprise! There was an unmarked and certainly unexpected 1" gas line. The gas shutoff is way out by the road so I went in and told the boss to not smoke in the back yard until I got the gas turned off. She decided to not smoke ANYWHERE. Maybe a little smarter than me. Fixed the water line then got my plumber to come fix the gas line the next morning.

But the thing is, this is the third water line I've had to fix because the previous owner would just trench stuff in when he took a notion and cut through existing lines then patch them with a slip on coupler. This one was obviously when they put in the gas line. It should have been a clue when I saw the coupler. The other two times it was intersecting water lines running to the barn or the pens or the pasture and he just patched them with those crappy couplers. Maybe too lazy to dig it up and fix it right. Maybe didn't know how. Who knows.

I usually call (it's 811 here) and have them locate but when I know there's no electrical or gas close by I don't worry much about it. I can locate with a couple coat hangers and find most stuff. I still don't know why there's a gas line there. Makes no sense. But I'm going to be a little more gun-shy the next time. I never use those crappy couplers underground. I don't use them anywhere but damn sure not underground.

Also, good job @Markus_EG4 on fixing the water line correctly with glue on couplers! ?

Sound like you have booby traps all over your yard
