Smoke alarm with dry contact or 12v relay? To shut down battery bank.

BTW, a HomePod can listen for a siren and trigger alerts and/or automations. My current setup uses HomePods and scattered temp sensors (HomePods have built in temp sensors as well). Of course this assumes network connectivity isn’t compromised.

Smoke alarm with dry contact or 12v relay? To shut down battery bank.

@hwy17 - do you have a design in mind for these relays? I’d love to see what an end-to-end setup looks like.

    Rethinking offgrid system layout - 2x EG4 6000XP

Yes, mostly the fire concern...not so much due to electricity, but the potential of faulty equipment. I do have confidence in my work and preventive measures and will certainly get it all checked by a pro. The other drivers are a) space, b) the option to combine the cabin and workshop, c) hear...

    Rethinking offgrid system layout - 2x EG4 6000XP

First off, I was hoping to have my environment all setup and running by now. But here we are in May ‘24…and I’m pondering a complete redesign based on the constant stream of learnings (and frightening stories). This post is to solicit advice on a potential design pivot and whether I’m totally...

    Solarever 455w

I’ve been waiting for SigSolar - or anyone - to get them back in stock but looking like that won’t happen. I have 10 Solarever 455’s and need 10 more. Looks like I’ll have to mix things up. @AndreasPassat I saw your other post about selling the 10 you have, but I’m in VA…I don’t think addl...

    Breaker (combiner) placement question.

I’m using a 125A breaker to combine the outputs of two 6000XP’s. I don’t have a ton of space to play with inside my “power shed”, so was hoping to nest the combiner in between the two units as shown in the pic (except will be a couple inches above the wireway). Q: Would this pass code? This is...

    6000xp line in

Just to pile on - 6AWG from a 50A breaker to each 6000XP (x2). Also 6AWG from each XP to a combiner box, then 2AWG from a 100A combiner box to load center.

Dual EG4 6000XP Wiring (please review)

I think that'll work just fine. One of my goals was to make it as novice-friendly as possible. This is a remote location and someone other than myself may need to switch from PV to grid. 200A grid bypass would be nice, but I'd rather avoid anyone having to open a breaker and interlock. If I...

Need some "smart" ideas for turning off EG4 3000 at night.

When I can’t [easily] automate the button function, I automate button press. https://a.co/d/77mqRyZ The switchbot can “press” a button. If you need a toggle, you can use 2 of them positioned correctly or permanently fix the switchbot lever to the toggle for push/pull functionality. Of course...

Question About EG4 18kpv Grid Connection

Yes, you'll essentially have double the everything. But, you need to make sure you plan for that end-to-end. If you want your loads to have access to 100A of pass-through / bypass grid power, all conductors and breakers must support that throughput. Also the case for the 25A (x2) AC coming from...

I'm not sure we're at "total dud" status until troubleshooting is complete. It might end up being that, but best to exercise a little more patience. Interested to hear the outcome of the SS call.

EG4 6000Xp. Load sharing? Using grid and batteries?

Considering the mechanics are there to grid-assist [for a surge > 6000w], would it be reasonable to suggest that a “permanent” grid assist feature could be added via firmware in the future (e.g. be able to sustain >6000w loads using the grid to make up the difference) if there is justification...

    Choosing inverter in 2024. MIN10000TL vs 6000XP vs LV-6548

Presumably, OP is not looking for net-metering (back-feeding or selling back to the grid), but will utilize AC input from the grid to the inverter for grid assist / bypass / etc.

    Incremental ESS/PV system (EG4 6000 Xp vs SOL-ARK)?

First place to start is to figure out what your load profile is — power demand, day/night highs/lows, and all that good stuff that the seasoned members of this forum will insist you figure out before getting started. Then determine what your goals are — backup power, reduced grid draw (and...

    Incremental ESS/PV system (EG4 6000 Xp vs SOL-ARK)?

It absolutely is. Off-grid inverters (incl. the 6000XP) can still use the grid as a power source (charging your batteries, bypass, etc.). Don't mistake that for grid tied or grid interactive, where power is (or can be) exported to the grid. These off-grid inverters are treated just like any...

Problems with EG4 6000XP Bypass Mode

Unfortunately that’s not possible with the 6000XP. The inverter disables PV/batt when in grid bypass. I’m hoping that this is somehow added via firmware update, but doubt that’ll happen.

Problems with EG4 6000XP Bypass Mode

Curiously, what is your primary use for grid bypass — is it to provide grid backup when your loads are > 50A (2 x 25A) or to provide grid power when your batteries are exhausted? (sounds like the latter). To take full advantage of grid bypass from dual 6000xp’s, each should have a dedicated 50A...

EG4 6000XP instead of Victron? Thoughts Welcome.

As a DIY'er, my expectation is to be revisiting my design, components, use cases, scale, etc. every so often. It aligns well with the 6000XP's 5yr warranty. I'm not going to fool myself into thinking I'm building a 10-20yr system. And I'm certainly not going to pay a premium for it. Even if the...
