Non electric lighting

The electric lightbulb changed all kinds of work sleep patterns around the world. Before that it was candles, whale oil and kerosene. Actually an ironic episode was that Rockefeller was opposed to the electric light bulb, because up until then his fortune was based on cornering the market for kerosene. Gasoline was considered a useless byproduct but then the gasoline engine changed all that.

Neat thing I saw the other day in a history page from Eaton Condulet: Electrical conduit became a thing when gas lights were converted over to light bulbs and they ran the wires through the old gas pipes.

100 years later, we're still paying the price, since the code writers decided they really like to see wires in pipes and were going to favor the practice.

A number of years ago I saw a fiber optic collector which had the same advantages of a light tube but did not require a roof mount. Not sure if it is still available.
