Oops, good catch. I updated the link - thanks!
  • Post in thread: Need a Battery Capacity Testing Meter

I'm looking for a meter to do some testing on lower capacity lithium batteries. I have a DROK meter that uses a hall sensor but the resolution is too low for measuring sub-amp loads. I'm looking to test some Ryobi 18V batteries that are only a few Ah capacity. I bought this meter: It has...

    They looked like this. Stickers.
  • Post in thread: Building an 18650 pack!

Well, this morning they are already sold out. At 75 cents per cell it's no wonder.
  • Post in thread: Inverter capacitor charging spark!

We all know that when you initially connect an inverter to power you get a spark as the capacitors charge up. For bigger inverters this spark is pretty significant. If the final connection is to your battery it means you get a tiny "weld" on the battery terminal each time you do this. I, for...
  • Post in thread: Building an 18650 pack!

Thanks, that's just the kind of info I am looking for. I think trying to build a 12V battery from these regular lithium (not LiFePO4) 18650s is probably a non-starter. I ordered some cheap ones to experiment with but will probably just use them for running my ESP8266 projects or maybe a small...
  • Post in thread: 5s Lithium-ion Balancer

I'm looking for recommendations for an active balancer I can use to balance some Ryobi 18V (5s) packs. I'm finding that the included BMS doesn't do a good job once these older packs get too far out of balance. Bringing them back in line can help quite a bit with their capacity. So, I would...
  • Post in thread: Finally found a LiFePO4 BMS with Low-temp Charging Protection

Right, and personally I don't see any issue with putting the shunt between the BMS and the battery. I can't imagine a 50mV impact on the pack voltage making any difference at all. The BMS can still do its job of balancing and protecting from over/under charge/discharge. Another thought would...
  • Post in thread: LiFePO4 Voltage Chart?

I bought this one which seems to work just fine. You can get a 100A or 350A shunt depending on the power you plan to use. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FGFFHC6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  • Post in thread: CALB 100Ah Assembly

BTW, mine uses two of the largest clamps I could find at Home Depot daisy chained together. They didn't have a single one large enough.
  • Post in thread: LTO cells on Batteryhookup.com

These look really interesting - 20,000 cycles????? https://batteryhookup.com/collections/module-madness/products/24v-lto-toshiba-scib-20-000-cycles-10-cells
  • Post in thread: 24V or 48V Server Rack?

Yes, I've already emailed Signature Solar with questions about their 3kW all-in-one. That is one of my biggest concerns, will it run my pressure washer which is rated at 20A/120V? Now it just has a regular NEMA plug (not the 20A plug) and runs fine on a 15A circuit but the last thing I want to...
  • Post in thread: BMS Recommendation for Headway

I'm building a small (16Ah) 12V battery using 8x HEADWAY 38120 HP 3.2V 8AH cells. I'm looking for a BMS recommendation. I don't need a lot of power, maybe 50A max and this battery won't be anywhere cold where it might need a low temp cutoff. I could poke around eBay or AliExpress but just...
  • Post in thread: CALB cells have arrived!

Looking at the mailing labels, the final leg of the journey was UPS Ground from Santa Fe Springs, CA. However, with other items from China I've noticed they get to CA via China Post or whatever and then are relabeled for the domestic mail. Not sure exactly what route it took in this case.
  • Post in thread: Headway battery advice

I recently noticed that a 4s battery I built with 8 Headway cells was not performing near capacity. I disassembled and found that one cell was about a volt low after the pack had fully charged. I built it using a Daly 60A BMS from eBay. I suspect that the answer is replacing the bad cell but...
  • Post in thread: LiFePO4 Charge Profile

According to the manual. Bulk mode 14.4V for 4 hours or until current draw drops below 5A (whichever comes first) Absorption mode 13.6V for 48 hours (not clear if there is some other criteria other than the 48 hrs) Float at 13.2V after that. I've asked the manuf if float can be disabled...
  • Post in thread: Is my inverter broken?

So I'm just wondering if it could be something other than load that's causing the inverter to fault? Since the power draw doesn't seem to be exceeding the inverter's capability, are there other reasons why an inverter would cause a fault? Reading the manual I just see three: 1. Too many...
  • Post in thread: Finally found a LiFePO4 BMS with Low-temp Charging Protection

I'm almost positive it shuts off all the power (in and out) during a LV cutoff. Mine is all connected with patch cables right now so I'm not in a position to test it. Plus my Chinese isn't what it used to be ;-) I believe the cells would have to recover above the "Undervoltage release"...
  • Post in thread: 5s Lithium-ion Balancer

I grabbed some P108 4Ah battery packs from batteryhookup to see if I could get those working. I've had really good luck with the P102 packs from them, I can usually get over 80% of the packs to work either by disassembling and charging them or by just putting them in the charger. About 30% of...
  • Post in thread: Need Help with Headway DIY Pack

I also just got these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RW2XKRT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which make it easier by alerting when a set of parallel cells gets to 2.7V. It's adjustable to alarm between 2.7 and 3.8V.
  • Post in thread: Li Time parallel battery diagram

I just bought a Li Time 24V 100Ah battery to power my car detailing setup. I will probably buy a second one next year to increase the total Wh of the system. In the Li Time manual they have an interesting recommendation for connecting the two batteries in parallel (attached). I don't think...
  • Post in thread: I really want to use the Victron Battery Protect 220A

Do you mean it NEVER allows reverse current or only when the protection kicks in? My BP-65 allows me to charge the battery from the load side as long as the battery isn't below the protection voltage.

  • Post in thread: BMS for Headway 4s 38120 12v 200a battery?

Good question... I initially bought it to upgrade a UPS for more runtime. However, I thought it was kind of a waste to use a battery with such high power output and not a ton of amp hours for that purpose. So I turned it into a jumpstarter and also have pressed it into service as a DIY battery...
  • Post in thread: LiFePO4 Charge Profile

Cool thanks, ya it's a WFCO. That charge cycle is what their docs say. The converter is only about 8-10 feet from the battery so it's closer than being back in the middle of the trailer. Thanks for the help, gives me more options.
  • Post in thread: The 100ah Great Power Battery on sale in the ruixubattery.com site for $484

The plastic cased Sinopoly cells are $519 for 100Ah with this code. I have the 60Ah version and they work great. Very tempting!!!
