With such a huge change (70-30%) over just a 0.2V range you're really not getting a very good idea of the actual SOC by using voltage. IMHO using a shunt/hall sensor is really the best way to tell how much power is left in your pack.
I was building this (and making it up as I go along) at the same time as Will. This will be replacing the lead acid battery in our 25 ft camper trailer. Can't wait for camping season!
This uses the Batteryhookup 100A BMS plus CALB cells from Aliexpress, both of which have been mentioned quite...
Just got my shipment of 100Ah CALB cells. As expected these babies are awesome. Packaging was top notch, cells are brand new, each one measures at 3.27V. I'm letting them warm up for a while before doing any testing/charging.
They came from Aliexpress...
Been working on this for a few weeks and it's finally presentable.
60Ah LiFePO4 prismatic cells from RUiXU with BMS
1500W pure sine wave inverter
Victron 75/15 MPPT
Victron 65A smart battery protect
QC 3.0 USB
12V power outlet
AiLi power meter with 350A shunt
I was going to try and mount the...
I just finished building a LiFePO4 battery for a used APC UPS. I wanted a bit more runtime than the lead acid battery would provide but that's another story. I figured about 16Ah would do me fine and decided to go with Headway cells from batteryhookup.com. In reality, I've been bit by the...
Here's one request Will. Give us about 24 hours notice here on the forum with a synopsis of your review before you post the video. That way we will get a chance to order them if they are good before the rush where they sell-out and the price goes up 50%. Thanks!
Some additional photos. Put it in a Plano field box from Amazon and connected some external posts to use for as an emergency jump starter. It starts my Miata just fine! Need to find something to cover those posts and protect against a short though. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Weekend project, "upgrade" my free Harbor Freight flashlight from 3x AAA to 1x 18650. Includes USB charger module.
I'm not saying this was a good idea, just something to do. Still need to find some longer screws to put it all together.
Parts are:
- 18650 battery
- some nickel strips
-...
No offense but you sound like my wife! ;-) Ya I have a generator now but I like to tinker and I don't like the noise. To me, using a generator is like a cop out - anybody can do that. Why use a $600 generator when I can spend over $2k for a solar solution?
Looking at 300W of solar on the...
I think it boils down to some pretty basic factors:
1. All LiFePO4 cells are made in China. So comments about "Chinese battery quality" could just as well leave out the Chinese part. I haven't seen any that come from anywhere else.
2. If you buy from companies like Battle Born you get the...
Just saw these. If you're thinking of a cylindrical LiFePO4 DIY battery they might be worth looking into. Look fast though because I suspect they'll be gone very soon...
I bought a Seek Thermal camera module when they first came out years ago. It plugs into an Android phone micro USB port. It worked pretty good back in the day but now I have a heck of a time finding a phone that it still works with. Won't work with many of the new phones. For $200 it was a...
I assume I'm not the only one to get this email from BLS Battery.

The shunt is part of the AiLi power meter, that's how it knows how much power is going in/out of the battery.

I like "inside vehicle" just not sure how you got that from the graphic. I keep staring at it waiting for something to click.
Oh and I though it was "don't spray farmers" and "don't spray doberman dogs".
While I was sitting staring at a volt meter today I was thinking of ways to make bottom balancing easier. Since this seems to be a critical step when dealing with DIY LiFePO4 packs it would be really nice to make it easier. I'm sure there are some tricks out there and my purpose here is to...
I know y'all are probably smarter than this but if you see an inline breaker like this on Amazon/eBay/etc. don't waste your money. I should have tested this while I was still in the return window - lesson learned. The "150A" breaker popped at 120A after about 5 seconds. Second attempt caused...
Andreas Spiess has an interesting video on using solar power for projects. Maybe not exactly what you're looking for but still a really interesting channel if you haven't seen it.
I just hook the inverter directly to the battery (fused for safety). It's not going to drain me down to an unsafe level anyway as inverters generally cut out around 11V automatically disconnecting the load.
Regarding placement of the shunt/meter you have to decide what information you want. That will determine where you want to put it. What you see done often is a meter/shunt is placed in each of the positions shown in my scribble. That way you know what's happening everywhere.
Also note that...
To allow for more current handling. This battery can put out 400A at 12V and a single 10ga wire is less than adequate by itself. Not saying that 2x10ga can handle this for long but it's better than just one.
It's true, my inverter has no fuse or battery protection currently. I do have a 150A inline fuse which I plan to add at to the inverter positive at some point. The circuit breaker I bought didn't work out. I've tested the inverter and it disconnects around 10-11V so at this point I probably...
That might have been me. I wanted to charge my LiFePO4 from something like a laptop power supply. The current limiting capability of either the MPPT or the power supply itself is critical here. I did get it to work by tailoring the Victron current setting to the power supply in question...
I'm getting ready to mount a couple of 100W panels on my 2004 trailer with a rubber roof. Seems pretty straightforward so far, just some screws and lap sealant plus maybe some eternabond tape. Just a couple of questions based on your experience.
1. Type and length of screws? I assume...
