Powerfield plastic buckets with 210 pounds of ballast - 280 watt x 20 panels along southwest facing tennis court line.
  • Post in thread: Okay. Now I did it! 34 used solar panels/34 SolarEdge DC optimizers/inverter - Whoah!

With the great help of this group, I was able to do my own permitted solaredge installation. 25 of the 34 panels went up on my southeast 5/12 pitch ranch house roof. I received my net meter and PTO yesterday. On its maiden voyage today, my solar panels with solaredge 7.6kw inverter made 32kwh...

I am thinking of getting an electric ego leaf blower for that reason! Reality is that nobody is playing tennis anymore. Teenagers have grown up. My knees are too arthritic. I have thought about just filling the entire court with panels!
  • Post in thread: Okay. Now I did it! 34 used solar panels/34 SolarEdge DC optimizers/inverter - Whoah!

Made a lot of progress this weekend! Almost ready for inspection.
  • Post in thread: Beginner DIY Roof Top Installation

I was up on the roof a few times. I dropped my tape measure and just watched it get stuck in the gutter :) When I did my four panel shed install, an entire panel fell to the ground slowly and then face planted onto the soft grass. Because it was slow, the surface area acted like a sail, and...

@400bird. I am going to do exactly this. What kind of junction box did you use for this? I don't need to use the Soladeck as I don't need to use the bottom to go through the roof, since I am going to use this Oatey flashing. I also don't have a rail to attach to, since my used system is the...
  • Post in thread: Best Sol-Ark 15 Battery?

I have four of the V5 batteries in closed loop with my Solark 15k. Victron Power In is being used as the bus bar. So far, all is good! It is indoors, and so I am not taking advantage of heater. I also felt that newer was better for long term.
  • Post in thread: Can someone with very little experience actually design and install a new grid tied system?

I am not an electrician or roofer. I bought a used solaredge system with 34 Trina 280 watt panels with racking locally. I was able to get permit and install on my own house. I passed inspection and then obtained permission to operate in April 2023. It can be done!
  • Post in thread: Okay. Now I did it! 34 used solar panels/34 SolarEdge DC optimizers/inverter - Whoah!

The white wire went to adjacent panel and was then wire nut connected to another white wire that goes to a contactor and then the outdoor house lights to the sports court. I switched the white for the red and then used the red in the other panel to wire nut to the exiting white. I think the...

I guess I got the attention of the newspapers. Good thing I got my permits! https://www.inquirer.com/business/energy/solar-panel-installation-tax-credits-philadelphia-energy-bills-20230306.html
  • Post in thread: BMS amperage

Thank you. I have learned that sizing the BMS has more to do with the load and not with the battery capacity. !!
  • Post in thread: Panels slightly larger than shed roof

just sending a followup. 24v battery bank with Cotek 1500 watt inverter and wired to a electric panel and two eight foot ground rods. Thanks to this forum and @willprowse I have been able to proceed. Currently just power a Google nestcam floodlight :)
  • Post in thread: Okay. Now I did it! 34 used solar panels/34 SolarEdge DC optimizers/inverter - Whoah!

After three weeks, my AHJ just approved my permit for home owner self installation (25 of the 34) panels. I left 3feet at the Ridge and on the side of the southeast roof, and I left one panel open for a plumbing vent. Now all my planning comes into play!

Just updating with some pictures. Wire pull, fish tape, conduit bends (never done that before). Some mistakes. Definitely not professional quality bends, but good enough for me :) Today was cold in PA and a bit windy, so I was glad not to go on the roof. Next part will be the junction box...

  • Post in thread: SolarEdge SE7600H-US and batteries

How about bringing the solaredge 7600 into a solark inverter through the Gen in input. Then you can add 48v batteries to the solark. The advantage is that you can also add some ground mount DC panels to the solark in addition to the AC from the solaredge

Making progress on the grid tie solaredge system.

I looked at all these options and ultimately went with the home build 2x4 A frame scaffold system. I used a smaller ladder to simply walk them up and then support them on the platform. It was way cheaper than buying the scaffold. Plus it can be broken down and used as wood later.
  • Post in thread: Buying used panels from some random guy on Craigslist.

I switched the red lead from the voltage side to the amperage side. I must have a blown fuse. Will get replacement and retest.
  • Post in thread: Solark inverter with Solaredge DC optimizers

My solar installer here recommends exactly this. Since I have 9.6kw panels with 34 solaredge optimizers and 7.6kw solaredge optimizer (not yet roof installed), he runs commends installing these into the Gen input of the solark 15k and then additional 3kw DC input. This gives me two more mppt...
  • Post in thread: Pollen on flat vs angled panels.

These panels are not currently in use. I am storing for planned future use, but it is amazing to see the difference between 0 degrees and 80 degrees. My panels on the roof at 23 degrees are probably closer to zero! Can't wait for PTO and I can turn on the system and then go clean them
  • Post in thread: Three AC units in one house - How to stop them from turning on all at once

Excellent idea. I have to do this anyway, because I have to buy the MicroAir soft starts and get ready to install them. Of course, we did have some snow squalls today :)

    This is very helpful!
  • Post in thread: Single phase to 100amp panel (one side only?) Does this make sense.

Yes. I removed the jumper (10awg with crimps) when I was trying to figure out what was going on with the gfci. I can put it back, but I want to do that last as I will have at most three circuits on this panel until the summer starts. I am thinking about one of the comments about the neutral...

  • Post in thread: Multiple grounding rods for solar panel install and electrical devices?

Thank you @timselectric. I listened to Mike Holt and your advice. All the panels in my ground mount on tennis court are connected back to the main electrical panel array and ground from there. I did not install a separate ground rod at the array which is only 70 feet from the house. In this...
  • Post in thread: SolarEdge SE7600H-US and batteries

Solark 15k is installed. I still have the solaredge on the load side, until I buy some black Friday deal batteries
  • Post in thread: where to place solark 15k and batteries

For followup, I ended up putting the battery bank 15 feet from inverter. Straight line is only seven feet, but by following the wire trough and the wall and making sure I had three feet in front of the electrical panel and three feet from the gas boiler, I ended up turning the server rack...
