They told me to take a picture of my install for future reference. Not sure how helpful it is.

My mom lives three hours from us. I go visit her all the time but my wife is reticent to join me. My mom is not the tidiest person in the world. My wife found seaweed six inches tall growing in the Keurig machine water holder thingy. So we just bring the 5er. She lives in the country and we...

    This makes me happy.
  • Post in thread: Lesson learned… Again…

Yeah, get rid of that fuse and any others like it. Replace them all with quality fuses or breakers.
  • Post in thread: whole house power monitor is soooooo cool!

Dang, this emporia vue is awesome. Finding stuff that is a constant drain. Our iMac with external raid was drawing 200W all the time. Turns out it wasn't going into sleep mode. Fixed that. We have a fridge and a separate freezer in the garage. They are drawing 260W almost constantly...

  • Post in thread: Cost of solar

What started me down this nutty path of big blue shiny stuff was when I installed a Victron smart shunt and found this rat's nest: My electrical OCD just couldn't handle that. So I redid the whole system. This is what I took out: That rat's nest was replaced by about 10 ft of wire. Now I...
  • Post in thread: New Victron Multiplus-II 12/3000/120-50 designed specifically for RVs with 30A/50A input flexibility available MARCH 2021

Here's my wiring diagram: And a pic of the inverter installed: So simple. The second wire from the top is AC in from my power reel. I just used the existing 6/3 Romex and cut in a 50A breaker then to AC in. Then I just hooked up the other end that goes to the power panel to AC1 out...
  • Post in thread: Cost of solar

Went out to the 5er today to do some things inside. It was 65 deg F outside but inside the trailer it was 77 deg F. Time was 1500 and it was a clear day. So I powered up the system, turned on the solar and one AC unit. AC was drawing 1200W and my solar was cranking out 1200W. So I got free...
  • Post in thread: Low voltage when at 40% SOC. Why?

In my experience, it takes a few cycles to get the SOC calibrated.
  • Post in thread: whole house power monitor is soooooo cool!

Well, it turns out our freezer in the garage never stops. Didn't know that. I remember replacing the thermostat control panel years ago but never paid attention to whether it was working. So our freezer that we paid $200 for 10 years ago has probably cost me thousands in wasted energy bills...
  • Post in thread: Solar powered ebike

My butt can't handle the 4-6 hour ride time I get from my ebike already. My butt can't handle more than 40 miles.
  • Post in thread: SOK 206AH BATTERY CONCERNS

I have pulled 286 amps for 10 minutes from my 2 12v 206Ah SOK batteries. I have pushed 60A into one and 120A into 2 for long periods. Go on the SOK Facebook page and there are multiple tests on the SOK BMS that indicate it is capable of way more than SOK states. SOK even says they are...

  • Post in thread: Moving on up to full time boondocking in a big honkin 50Amp Class-A - Any first hand experience??

If I were full timing, I would just follow the seasons. So much more practical than trying to cool an RV without a genset or shore power.
  • Post in thread: Stereo Speakers

True story. Happened 10 minutes ago. Me: Hon, I am going to move our Sonos Arc Dolby Atmos 7.1 surround sound system we have in the den down in the basement and move the Roku Ultra 5.1 Dolby system up here in the den since we always watch movies in the basement with the giant tv and there is...
  • Post in thread: Added the last 2 panels to my 5er

Put 2 more 200W panels on. 1200W for 400Ah of LiFePO4 should be about right. Runs my 15k BTU A/C, fridge and some lights just fine.
  • Post in thread: Impact crimpers suck

I redid my RV system moving the batteries. While I was removing the existing 4/0 battery cables I noticed one of the wires was not tight in the lug. So I gave it a yank and the cable came out. I thought I had redone all my crimps with my Temco hydraulic crimper but must have missed one. So I...
  • Post in thread: Should I redo all my crimps with my new Temco hydraulic crimper?

I drunk bought a Temco hydraulic crimper. I have used the Temco mechanical crimper, the one that uses a hammer that Will recommends. I have 4/0 cable and all seems well with the crimps. Is there a compelling reason to redo all the crimps with the Temco hydraulic crimper?
  • Post in thread: Used hydraulic crimp set.

Dangit, why did I click on this thread? Just ordered the TH0005 set like you did. Now that I am pushing 300A through my cables, I want the best crimps. I have been using the Temco mechanical crimper.
  • Post in thread: Victron MultiPlus II (MPII) Power Share is awesome

Was out at the camper doing some testing of my new Battle Born current limiter. It works great and my BMSs never go into protect mode now. No precharge required. I know I can run one 15k A/C off my Champion 2500 inverter genset, but it cannot run that with the residential fridge. With the MPII...
  • Post in thread: whole house power monitor is soooooo cool!

This power monitoring stuff is cool. When I first installed it, we were idling at 1500W. Have that down to 700W. We had stuff running all over the place. The dang TV was always on as background noise and that was 160W with the Dolby 7.1 surround system.
  • Post in thread: Just finished install of MultiPlus II, what a great box

Finally got my MPII 12/3000/120x2 in and got it installed and working. Why didn't I get this in the first place? Hookup is easy: AC in from my shore power, AC out to main panel. That's it. No sub panels, no transfer switches. Other than 6/3 Romex being a beast to work with and the Victron AC...
  • Post in thread: Can my generator run my home aircon (heat pump)?

This is the genset I'm ogling right now. The place where I put the genset outside is right next to the gas meter. Would be super cool to have it hooked to natural gas and not worry about getting gas...

  • Post in thread: Why is my Type T fuse getting hot?

Ok, got out to the camper today. Replaced the type T fuse with a brand new Buss from Blue Sea Systems. No sign of corrosion when I removed the old one. Cleaned the fuse and fuse holder anyway with deoxit then emory paper. Installed new fuse and ran another load test. Original test: 71 deg...
  • Post in thread: Fuse holder nut was glowing RED!

I installed my Lynx distributor today and decided to replace my Blue Sea 250A circuit breaker with a 400A class T fuse. The class T fuse holder is from Blue Sea Systems and the fuse is a LittleFuse 400A class T. Got it all hooked up and tested DC only, Solar and low power AC. All worked...
  • Post in thread: Xantrex Freedom 458 direct replacement - Newbie Questions

For your 30A rig, the Multiplus 12/3000 would be a great replacement. For now, just drop it in and enjoy. When you upgrade things later, you will want to come back and ask about upgrading wires and such. And yes, the blue mist will suck you in. It's a nice place to live, but it will cost...
  • Post in thread: 100ah vs. 200ah

Agree. My 3k inverter pushes my 2x12vx206Ah SOKs pretty hard. I'd be much better off with 3 or 4. Where does it end?
