  • Post in thread: May have to Give Up on Solar

You could drill a few small unnoticeable holes in the tree and squirt something nasty in there to kill the tree. Might take a year, but then I imagine you can take down a dead tree
  • Post in thread: 2021 Honda Generator Carbon Monoxide Indicator

I've had two oil sensors go bad on generators. After beating my head against a wall a few times, I bypassed them and they started right up no problem. Just like the low oil sensors... I'm guessing there is some way to bypass/disable that CO sensor too... I keep my generator in a detached...
  • Post in thread: Solar assistant: do you use it?

I feel like several people are responding "NO..." when they couldn't use it with their system anyway... In my case, I was able to overcome the poor voltage readings in my MPP LV1012-MS with SA to control when to switch to Utility/Battery. Otherwise, the unit was switching incorrectly based on...
  • Post in thread: Shout out for Current Connected

Hey all, Just thought I'd give a shout out for Current Connected. I bought (4) of @HighTechLab EnerAmp 170AH cells. They were received quickly and all packaged nicely. Unfortunately, there was damage to the box during shipping and one of the studs was severely bent and broke loose...
  • Post in thread: Anyone have experience with the JITA 12V 300Ah battery

I bet it's another CHINS duplicate... Don't really know unless someone (aka Will) tears it apart and compares :)
  • Post in thread: Licitti Heavy Duty AC Power Box

I completed the box build. To my surprise, it actually came with the SCC! I added a real Battery Meter into the side too. I like it!
  • Post in thread: Any well pump experts? I had a thought...

@Rednecktek , Our cabin is very similar. My well is down 500'. So even a 120v submersible wasn't going to cut it. (Well, maybe a Grundfus (sp?). But, the well driller already had to go 200' more than we were expecting and costs were rising... So for the first two years, we did what you are...
  • Post in thread: LV6548 shutting down with EG4 Chargeverter & blown Solar Assistant

That makes no sense??? Are they saying you should shut off your system in order to charge?! And wouldn't the power being input from the CV go straight to the loads and any excess would then charge the batteries?
  • Post in thread: Transfer Switch or subpanel?

Well... I guess this is the official answer from the horse's mouth... I had contacted Reliance Controls and asked them about using the ProTran permanently in "Gen" mode: Here is their response: The ProTran/2 is designed for Generator or Inverter power as a back-up. Not as a main source. It is...
  • Post in thread: Battle born low voltage cut off

I'm going to take a stab at answering this... Many other LifePo4 manufacturers advertise less CC than the 3-5k that BB advertises.
  • Post in thread: Samlex EVO 4248?

Update: Spoke with support at Samlex today. (Awesome support! Answered within hours and gave me his cell number to call him back!) I asked about parallel capabilities since I'm unsure if a single unit can power my well pump. Although he was confident the single unit can start the well pump...
  • Post in thread: Lifepower4 battery automatic updater

Add me to the list who didn't get a case either... Also wondering how to tell what firmware version is loaded on it? Nothing marked in/on the box or on the updater.
  • Post in thread: Charge Battery by Utility When SOC Drops Below a Certain % (EG4-6500)

I'm using Solar Assistant with my MPP Solar unit. In combination with my Victron Battery Monitor, it has a "Power Settings" section that can switch the modes on the AIO at whatever battery percentage that you want. However, I'm not sure you can avoid the "phase change". In my experience, it...
  • Post in thread: Cannibalize Chins Battery?

Interesting thought... I would also argue that you could install a better BMS too (in this case, with low temp protection)
  • Post in thread: 2021 Honda Generator Carbon Monoxide Indicator

Just my .02... I have my 6500 Champion generator in 8'x8' shed at my off-grid cabin. Two reasons: Can't have it out in the rain/snow and can't easily drag it in and out anymore. I have a large metal exhaust fan blowing (2'x 2') out the back of the shed with the generator exhaust facing...
  • Post in thread: AiLi half of current reading, and capacity with 200ah battery bank.

So it looks like you have your parallel wire connected to the p- side of the shunt. Therefore, the shunt is not seeing the current of the 2nd battery flowing thru it. Try moving your parallel wire directly to the battery terminal with the shunt sitting on top of that.
  • Post in thread: Emergency: Charging Lifepo4 batteries with agm/leadacid charger

I guess it depends on what Valence recommends... I know my older Renogy(EPEver Rebrand) MPPT SCC does not have a LFP mode and I asked Battleborn if I could use the AGM mode. They looked at the specs of the Renogy and said the AGM mode would be OK and would not hurt the battery... I would...
  • Post in thread: Signature Solar EG4 6.5K Off-Grid Inverter | 6500EX-48

I didn't think so. So I guess Will was referring to not having AC Input connected at all???
  • Post in thread: MPP PIP-1012LV-MS Voltage Reading Problem

Update: Had a very rainy day today and I was in the garage with the TV and Stereo on (solar setup is in garage). Solar input was only around 6W and the battery voltage dropped down to trigger the cutover to AC. So while the AC was charging the battery, the voltage was reading about a tenth of...
  • Post in thread: EP Cube Review

Personally, I would love to see you review these new "whole house" systems. I'm currently in the market for something along these lines and it's hard to find detailed information about them. Specifically, I have a 240v 1.5HP deep well pump set down 500' and would love to know in advance what...
  • Post in thread: having a hard time justifying switch to LiFePo4

So to be on the conservative side, an FLA will last 5 years. You're saying the lifepo4 will last 30 - 100 years?!?! That sounds a bit exaggerated... (especially with the risk of charging under freezing temps causing it to be bricked) I don't think "affordable" lithium batteries have even...
  • Post in thread: Burnt up junction box

John, Thanks for testing this! Unfortunately, I have to buy another assembly as too much of the wire was burnt. But, this time I'll leave it as designed and leave the cover off on the first sunny day that I can watch it for a few hours. I just ordered a temperature gun so will use that to...
  • Post in thread: Samlex EVO 4248?

Well, I ordered the 4248 last night from donrowe.com... Hoping to catch a sale again on batteries within the next few weeks. Thinking I will go with rack mount batteries instead of the powerpro. Will be cheaper to add on in the future and also easier to increase the capable amp draw. It will...
  • Post in thread: momentary surge and inverter/cable/fuse sizing?

    Fair enough
  • Post in thread: MPP PIP-1012LV-MS Voltage Reading Problem

Update: Ian swapped out the entire unit for me. (I did have to pay return shipping, which kind of sucks...) New unit installed and behaving much better so far!!! So the problem in the old unit was either a 2nd bad mainboard or another component in the box (inverter, scc, etc.)
  • Post in thread: Solar Assistant Dashboard doesn't make sense

I changed the Inverter "Self consumption power" in SA back to 0 (I had it at 15) and as of now the graphs look pretty close. So maybe it is a SA issue after all, IDK? I'll wait and see what it looks like both at night and when there is full sun
  • Post in thread: Unique "UPS" scenario

Yes, I've decided to give the UPS route a try. I have a spare UPS at work that I can take to the cabin with me and see how it works out. It would be nice if I could leave it there. But, with most inexpensive AGM models, they don't like to sit uncharged for months on end.. So, I'll have to...
