New Growatt hybrid inverter SPH10000TL- HU-US split phase

Reading the Intro slides, they show 3 battery types (all of Growatt origin); the ALP, Hope and AXE battery. Only one (the AXE) have I ever seen listed for sale in the US. Are the other two coming, or is that more of a global product we won't see here?

I haven't heard anything so far.

Operating modes document.

Only question I have is, under time of use, if grid or Gen charge is checked, it's starts charging from grid or gen but when does it stop??

When battery is full?
When the soc or v has been met?

Need clarification on this

I’ve pasted what the document says below. It will stop when the battery is “full”. With the MINxxxxTL-XH-US inverter and a ARO battery connected, you have a setting to tell the inverter what percentage “full” is. You can’t set it higher than 100%. I’d assume the new SPH-US has a percentage setting or battery voltage setting or both that identifies “full”. I’m also assuming that the type of setting (voltage or %) would depend on what battery you connect and what the battery communication interface offers for you to use.

4.3 Typical Battery Charge First Mode
Priority of Energy Sources = PV > Grid
Priority of Energy Usage = Battery > Load > Grid
PV power will be used to charge the Battery as the top priority. After the Battery is fully charged, excess PV power available will power the home loads. If excess PV power is insufficient to power the home loads, the Grid power will be used to cover any shortage.

Thanks. 4.3 battery charge first mode is the least likely way I'll use this inverter though.

The mode I'm likely going to use is 4.1 load first/self consumption, with pv sell.

Typical Load First / Self-Consumption Mode
Priority of Energy Sources = PV > Battery > Grid
Priority of Energy Usage = Load > Battery > Grid

WHat I'm asking about is :

Grid or Gen Charge: While in Time Of Use Mode, if the Grid/Gen Charge
function is enabled by clicking the appropriate checkbox, the inverter will
use grid/generator power to charge the battery as long as the actual
Battery SOC or Voltage is lower than the Battery set value
.

It sounds like if soc falls to setting (say 10%) then the inverter will charge from grid/gen to maintain the minimum soc

I agree with what you say, and that is exactly how “a/c” “grid” charge works on the MIN-US. Depending on where you are reading in the Growatt apps and documentation, they use the term”a/c” or “grid”. I think “a/c” is better, the inverter has no idea if the power is from grid or another inverter, in my case it’s another inverter.

Interesting discussion. I'm still not positive, but when you run these inverters without a battery, does the backup load get power from AC when you've got no solar coming in? It seems like it should, but you never know.

Looks like in on-grid mode the system doesn't Even use the battery unless the grid is down

Looks like it powers home and backup loads from pv then gridScreenshot_20240511-155958.png

It's very confusing.

If I don't enable grid charge, when soc drops to my setting, it should just stop pulling from battery and pull from grid.

I don't understand what grid charge does exactly then if it's only maintaining the soc.

For the version 1 of the MINxxxxTL-XH-US the backup output is hot when you have PV or Grid. For version 2, the backup output is only hot if the grid is not.

Interesting, and obviously V3 didn't have a backup output, because of how it was designed. Based on how they're showing the diagrams, I'm confident that it's more like V1 of the MIN's than V2.

I don’t recall them being supposed to be available last month, who said that?
Ok that's good to know.
Grid charge allows you to charge from the grid, not just PV. Lots of situations you would not want to charge from grid.
Right but that's what's confusing. There doesn't be a way to set how much you want to charge from the grid. For example, if I wanted to charge from grid if soc fell to 10%, and I want it to stop charging when soc is 25% , how would one do that?
That’s exactly what it would do. Just like the MIN-US inverter.

I talked to growatt USA in March and they said some retailers were supposed to have them in April.

One way would be to use solar Assistant to change the TOU mode based on battery state of charge.

What inverters out there would let you do that with inverter native settings?
