123\SmartBMS USB data to Victron cable, self made

Has anyone made their own 123Smart BMS USB to Victron Venus running on a RaspberryPi, cable?
I understand the manufacturers cables use an optocoupler to isolate the two circuits for safety reasons,
however, is it possible to live dangerously and just run a straight USB cable from the 123SmartBMS to a
RaspberryPi running Victrons Venus software?
