Hello all,
I have a roof mounted 2.4 kw system that was installed professionally on my house roof in 2010.
The system has functioned well but is not keeping up with increased house usage and car charging needs.
the current set up is all (20) 125 watt Sunpower panels, 2 strings going to a Sunpower SPR 4000 inverter.
All grid tied with appropriate cutoffs and system meter in basement. Everything is functioning well, if inadequate.
My question is:
In the interest of economics is it possible to remove and replace the array with a set of panels yielding closer to 5kw, using the existing wiring that currently is in weatherproof conduit and feeds from roof to basement. There I would like to remove the SPR 4000 and replace with a new appropriately sized string inverter.
Would this be possible? Or do you think I need to do larger scale parts replacement that would necessitate using a solar contractor?
I ask bc the retail solar contractors all want to start completely from scratch to make more money.
Thx Greg
