  • Post in thread: Problems with Eg4 6500ex buyer beware.

Well, if nothing else...Will has a new solar topic he can cover and that is the use of various types of inverters and LED lights on dimmers. Would be interesting if he can replicate the issue with any of his different models of equipment. Just need to pick up a few dimmers and led lights from...
  • Post in thread: Generator gods, purchase advice sought.

I went with the EU7000is. The pain from the purchase was sharp but short. I converted it to tri-fuel (for natural gas use), the tank sits empty and I don't really need to store much if any gasoline. The good thing about Honda generators is that they retain much of their value, so the initial...
  • Post in thread: generator output too large

Generators only output what you request from them, up to their maximum. If you plug in a 100W light bulb to your 22kw generator, it will output 100W.
  • Post in thread: Growatt SPF 6000T DVM

You'll want to pay attention to balancing the loads, since this model will supply about 25A per leg continuous. If the well pump and water heater are both on at the same time and are both 240V, you're likely close to that level already. Turning on the window AC could put you over on one of the...
  • Post in thread: Delta Pro / Smart Home Panel / Charging

Some people got around the charging limitation by simulating solar panels using a generator output to feed an AC to DC converter.
  • Post in thread: EG4-LifePower4 batteries - Are these bad?

Is it too hard for an employee at SS to wipe down refurb units with IPA prior to sending out to a customer? I'd be fired from my job if I sent out something like that.
  • Post in thread: Rant: EG4 48v 100ah battery has faulty BMS. Signature solar customer service is TERRIBLE

The customer learned a costly lesson. Unfortunately, we have all made these types of mistakes and it sucks to experience it and lose money which is already depreciating every day. I don't believe Signature Solar is at fault here, other than their tech team missing the inverter specs. That took...
  • Post in thread: Solar and the Economy Your Thoughts??? Or anything else on your mind!

Yeah...I think we're using "you" in general terms. There is nothing personal about these comments regarding the state of the world or preparedness in general. Everyone needs to find their own "happy" place to be. Mine is being as independent as possible with the resources I have access to.

  • Post in thread: Pictures: Look What a Few Punishing Minutes of Baseball-Sized Hail Did to Massive Nebraska Solar Farm

You are extrapolating nonsensical points to slander and demean your pre-conceived "opposition". You likely won't read any further to ensure you stay within your safe bubble. It's OK, I have seen and heard it all before. I have a brother like you...who simply can't fathom how bad it is. It...
  • Post in thread: EG4 PowerPro UL listing required for battery backup?

In 28 years of owning houses, I've never had an electrical inspector from the town come to my houses. He would have to be invited in before he saw anything of concern. I don't have solar, so there is just a battery rack on wheels and an inverter. I could theoretically roll the battery rack into...
  • Post in thread: Cost for utility transformer installation?

I wrote a letter to the CEO of my electric company when our block was experiencing frequent outages during summertime heat waves. It turns out that most people had not yet converted to natural gas for heating and cooking and still ran large electric appliances. We had 11 homes sharing a single...

Not to worry, if the psychopaths currently running things get their way, we will be experiencing a nuclear winter before you know it...
  • Post in thread: Pictures: Look What a Few Punishing Minutes of Baseball-Sized Hail Did to Massive Nebraska Solar Farm

As an engineer, you should value data...wherever it leads. You remind me of the owner of the OceanGate submersible that just went down. You simply won't listen to others. You'll fire them if they raise concerns that challenge your assumptions. You have blinders on and are comfortable with the...
  • Post in thread: EcoFlow Delta Pro - FIVE Units Down. Something's awry here...

I was going to buy 2 Delta Pro units as an emergency house backup. I'm glad I didn't. Based on all of the complaints I have read and the amount of reconditioned units on the market, I decided they aren't ready for prime time. Their price also seems high for what you get. Good luck figuring out...
  • Post in thread: SOK battery rack on wheels

You probably have to build a solid base for mounting casters so you can better distribute the load and add mechanical support for lateral stresses. I would call whoever you purchased the rack from and ask them for suggestions.
  • Post in thread: DIY portable generator ideas and opinions

Voc is used for max voltage and Vmp for min voltage. You want to use both to make sure your string voltage is within the min and max parameters of your inverter PV input range. Too low a voltage and it won't take solar. Too much voltage and you can damage the unit.
  • Post in thread: How should I price Batteries previously purchased five months ago?

Just buy a new one and take the federal tax credit. Most BMS software keeps track of the number of cycles on the battery, but you'd need a laptop to connect and check it. The owner could also send a screenshot of this to you before you arrange anything. I wouldn't offer more than $700 for it...
  • Post in thread: Signature Solar Tech Support...Ghosting?

Maybe SS should buy out Ian and just put him on e-mail/phone duty. ;)
  • Post in thread: EG4 Chargeverter

I could have sworn the owner of SS replied in another thread that these were in stock as of yesterday after I asked about the EG4 & Signature Solar LLC businesses sharing the same address. Can't find that post now. Must have been deleted.

I have a great idea...let's pick the most deranged example of lunacy and apply that illogic to anyone who disagrees with us on a completely different subject. This will surely improve the dialog dramatically. /s
  • Post in thread: thoughts on a tiny house on our property

I agree with the other poster. Get two 6000XP. This gives you much more available power and also builds in redundancy in case one craps out.
  • Post in thread: Cheap way to reduce hot water heater draw.

I would move. Seriously. I thought NY was bad at $0.25/kwh.
  • Post in thread: Signature Solar Two Hours On Hold Just To Buy an Item!

That is a lot of calls. SS next hire should be voice linked chat AI robot trained on SS knowledgebase.
  • Post in thread: UTILIZING GRID TIE INVERTER OFF GRID - $100 REWARD FOR SOLUTION

My guess is the unit needs to be set to SBU mode and at least one battery is required to handle high inrush amps. PV only would likely work for standard loads like lights, etc.
  • Post in thread: How long can you (and your family) survive if the grid went down for an extended period?

This discussion is bringing back memories of the movie "The Road" (2009). Unforgettable experience. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZbXA4lyCtqoKKF6IDJ89HqPSfwUkHg42
