  • Post in thread: Victron Charge Controller Price Crash

The price cuts seem to have hit the higher voltage Victron CCs here in Canada Example(currently $840 CAD = $618 USD) https://volts.ca/collections/victron-energy/products/smartsolar-mppt-250-100-tr-ve-can VS. US supplier($612 USD)...
  • Post in thread: EP Cube Review

Don't get me wrong, I've love to have the fully certified ESS(UL9540) system for as cheap as some of these off grid systems. The PowerPro definitely seems to meet the criteria for indoor usage in Canada, USA, and probably elsewhere. I think the inverter has to be certified WITH the battery as an...
  • Post in thread: Victron is Over-priced Eurotrash. Why would anybody buy Victron over an AiO?

Maybe a better way to say it would be self consumption rather than idle consumption?
  • Post in thread: Maple Leaf Moose - 48V 280aH

These are now $6800 CAD If you compare it with the EG4 Power Pro, those are $4049 USD, but on sale for $3799 USD currently Those USD prices are equal to $5,154-$5493 CAD currently So per battery, the moose one seems to be $1307-$1646 CAD more than the Power Pro. That's quite the extra cost for...
  • Post in thread: shorted 12V LiFePO battery, now what?

I did this once by accident as well with a socket wrench.. The battery came back alive after a bit of time. It entered the short circuit protection mode. If it doesn't come back on by itself, try applying a 12/14v voltage to the terminals to see if the BMS wakes up.
  • Post in thread: Victron Charge Controller Price Crash

My setup is very small due to living in a town house and not wanting to put panels on the roof and deal with everything that goes along with that. Currently I don’t have a Victron inverter but I do have a Victron charge controller. I am using a Renogy on a secondary array which is what I was...
  • Post in thread: Victron Charge Controller Price Crash

I think I've seen some people using Genusun for smaller portable battery charging when operating out in the parks and places like that. With hundreds/thousands of dollars on the line, I wanted something I could return easily if it turned out to be RFI spewing junk. That mostly limited me to...
  • Post in thread: Overpaneling. How much is too much?

Victron seems to state a limit. For example the 250/100 SCC it says max of 70A short circuit current. But it's due to the reverse polarity protection: "A higher short circuit current may damage the solar charger in case of reverse polarity connection of the PV array." It seems like you're safe...
  • Post in thread: EP Cube Review

I don't have much to add in terms of specifics, but just here to say I'd enjoy watching your review of this system. I watched the AveRage Joe video on it and it was fairly extensive install process but still good to watch.
  • Post in thread: You won't believe how much power it takes to do laundry

I'm assuming they mean from synthetic fibres that are in most clothes these days. Polyester, etc.
  • Post in thread: Inverter tripping from high voltage from Victron CC

I don't have the Renogy settings accessible since it's disconnected but I think the bulk voltage was set to 14.6v*4=58.4 and float 13.8x4=55.2 or so. Renogy settings are set as 12v values and then multiplied internally in the controller to get the real value for your battery voltage(i.e...
  • Post in thread: Aolithium 48v batteries. Should or shouldn’t I?

Did you end up purchasing them? The price difference between them and SOK for example is staggering.
  • Post in thread: Aolithium 48v batteries. Should or shouldn’t I?

OK, so I have my 2 batteries set up and paralleled with an SOK server rack battery. After a bit of balancing, they are settled in, although in different SOC than the SOK(expected). I have to charge everything up to full and balance them all to 100% still(darn overcast weather). One thing I've...
  • Post in thread: Aolithium 48v batteries. Should or shouldn’t I?

I received my 2 batteries today. I ordered them separately as I wanted the longer wires, and not the jumper wires. I read somewhere(maybe earlier in this thread), if you order 2+, you get jumper wires that are intended just to connect the batteries together, and have to source your own longer...
  • Post in thread: AOLithium (48V) Buyer Feedback

Yeah I know there is some sort of threshold to try and ignore what it thinks could be nuisance readings or whatever. I also have the power vent for my hot water heater plugged in, and was using the packs for laundry as I had finally gotten the battery packs up to 99% for a bit. Doing the...
  • Post in thread: New Ontario Utility Rates coming - good or bad for DIY Solar?

Got to searching as I'm curious about this. From here https://esasafe.com/assets/files/esasafe/pdf/Electrical_Safety_Products/Bulletins/64-08-1.pdf So it looks like the minimum is UL 9540, and it can be installed in a non-habitable location even if it's not marked as "Suitable For Use in...
  • Post in thread: Luxpower LXP6K vs EG4 6000XP

Yes that's quite the difference in price. Possibly sacrificing support/warranty(speculating), and I guess you deal with Lux directly(can't say what that could be like) In the case of the Lux LXP-LB-US 12k, it is UL listed and CSA approved. Are the units that come directly from these...
  • Post in thread: Thoughts on the AOlithium 51.2 server rack lithium battery -48v

So it's dead? Just reading the user manual for these, it says usable capacity 4608 Wh as well which equates to about 90Ah at 51.2v. Can these things actually do 100Ah discharge? I'm wondering mainly because of mix and matching with an SOK which has a capacity of 104Ah. I ran into an issue...
  • Post in thread: AOLithium (48V) Buyer Feedback

Update: All BMSs have come back on line. All cells seem to be in the approximate voltage range of 2.874-2.884 or so. Didn't record every one but they are all around there give or take.
  • Post in thread: Batteries available for canada

There's these ship and forward services like https://shippsy.com/ I haven't used it and I'm curious if they would forward such large shipments(and at what cost. Battery might be $100 with that one.)
  • Post in thread: EG4 Indoor 280Ah 48v WallMount Battery

I wonder how the internal shunts would work in terms of calculating correct SOC in this case. Say you pull 100A, it'd only be roughly 1.6A per battery if you had 64 in parallel. But that's ~5.2kW, which is way above the average draw I'd imagine. Say your average draw in your house is 500W, you'd...
  • Post in thread: Safe to overpanel?

Hoping I can piggy back on this thread with another example. I have a 60A Renogy charge controller and 1860W of panels. Before buying the panels, I read that the charge controller will limit the power from the panels so no problem with putting these large panels on this charge controller. I plan...
  • Post in thread: Budget racking option: metal fence

I have 4 old panels and now a spare CC as well and I was thinking about doing this along my back fence. It's wooden and behind a tree with tons of shade in the summer but later in the afternoon there is some sun, and in winter it gets some direct sun with all the leaves being gone from the tree...
  • Post in thread: Thoughts on the AOlithium 51.2 server rack lithium battery -48v

Perhaps. Now that they're $999 USD, they must be the cheapest in the states as well I think? Still would be interested to know whether his batteries are dead. Since he mentioned that he didn't want to try charging them up again. I mean are they dead as in garbage? @Will Prowse
  • Post in thread: Batteries available for canada

I ordered a 100ah 48v server rack battery from solarpowerstore.ca. Their own brand(probably just something bought from china with their sticker on it I'd guess). The experience was less than ideal. The battery could only get about 94ah with small loads. This thing cost $2800 after tax and...
  • Post in thread: Thoughts on the AOlithium 51.2 server rack lithium battery -48v

It is still a good deal in comparison to anything else available here. I’m more curious just to know what are we getting from these units. Then at least I wouldn’t be disappointed if it turned out the capacity doesn’t quite live up to the specifications. Maybe it does actually give 100 but I...
  • Post in thread: Victron SCC's and oversizing of PV array

I had wondered about this, like how much can you over panel? According to the manual for the 250/100, it says max short circuit current of 70A https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/Datasheet-SmartSolar-charge-controller-MPPT-250-70-up-to-250-100-VE.Can-EN.pdf The 250/100 says it can...
  • Post in thread: What’s “reasonable” for backordered products?

I'm not sure if it's the same company but I'm dealing with a similar thing as you. I bought a battery from them that is branded under their own brand name. After using it for a short time, the capacity and SOH dropped to 94% and I can't get full capacity from the battery(confirmed with external...
  • Post in thread: Aolithium 48v batteries. Should or shouldn’t I?

Yeah I see that on the USA site. The Canadian site only sells batteries. That's good if the cables are available separately. I received the "AK01" set of cables. 1 set for each battery. No jumper cables(AK02). It works for my usage.
  • Post in thread: Thoughts on the AOlithium 51.2 server rack lithium battery -48v

There still is a $100 discount for a single one, at least on the Canadian website. But you get an additional $32 savings if you get the stack of 2 vs 2 separately.
