  • Post in thread: Mouse Chewed Inverter Data Wiring MPP Solar LV6548

I can't tell what size wire they are but going a little larger wouldn't hurt anything. As far as how I would repair them. I would remove each damaged wire and connector from the inverter and solder them back together on a bench with some shrink tubing slipped on each wire before soldering...

    Hopefully they're the inhumane type.
  • Post in thread: Sol-Ark's Comment on EG4 18k-PV-12-LV

I believe the market ultimately sets the price. If Sol ark was over priced then they wouldn't sell enough and would have to lower the price. If EG4 can be a real competitor then that may bring down the price. The economy is changing and not for the better so prices might come down across the...

I could make a great cardboard fort out of those.
  • Post in thread: Feast or Famine, The off grid solar dilemma.

I recently have been watching a u tube channel and one of the issues this person has is with the town water system that has many issues. One of them is the town water system often shuts down and the water in his pipes drains back into the municipal water system. It may do that several times a...

Not going to go down the credit road again. I'm debt free and want to stay that way.

Tell your wife to stop tap dancing on them. Problem solved.
  • Post in thread: CATL 271Ah cell issues.

I went to current connected and here's what they sell that look to be close to what I bought through Michael. The big difference though is these cells would have cost almost exactly $1000 dollars more. CATL 271AH | 3.2v LiFePO4 Cells | Grade A- Cells show slight swelling QR Codes are...
  • Post in thread: Sol-Ark's Comment on EG4 18k-PV-12-LV

I live in rural South Carolina and don't know anybody who has a solar system and can't even remember seeing any houses with panels around here. I do know where there's a wind generator but it's almost never spinning. Shortly after I put up my panels the mail carrier knocked on my door to ask me...

If I could afford victron I would buy victron. For the last 2 years I made less than $12000 a year, and this year I might make $8000. It's a good thing I'm thrifty. Lets go Brandon!
  • Post in thread: 400 amp main panel recommendations? (Norcal, PG&E)

My house was built with 2 x 200 amp panels and has worked very well for me when I decided to add solar. I shifted everything I needed that my modest solar system could handle to one panel and the other panel remains connected to the grid. The cost of installing enough solar to cover my whole...
  • Post in thread: PV->hot water

When I was in the planning stages for a small back up solar system. I considered many schemes to heat water and all were to complicated & cumbersome. But I was limiting my options because the back up systems I was considering were small. So when I found out about diversion water heating I made...
  • Post in thread: These are 280AH cells what do you think is going on with the pack?

I can see some balance issues but not sure if that's the whole problem. I also use overkill BMSs and they are terrible at balancing batteries so twice a year I manually re-balance my packs. My packs tend to go out of balance sooner the harder I am on them especially when charging. The higher...
  • Post in thread: DIY Solar Water Heater

I built a solar water heater for my swimming pool like that with irrigation pipes and it failed the first time water wasn't flowing through it when the sun was on it. The water boiled out and the pipe slightly melted. I didn't watch the video so I'm not sure if he used different pipe. I also...
  • Post in thread: EG 6500 PV doesn't seem to be working

I would certainly be looking at your connectors and getting the polarity right. The males & females can easily get messed up during assembly. Did your used panels have the mc4 connectors cut off when you got them?
  • Post in thread: Sol-Ark's Comment on EG4 18k-PV-12-LV

Selling more inverters means more across the board employees, more warehouse space, more capitol to purchase inverters, more insurance and whole lot more. Look at sig solar. They sell cheaper products and have been growing to fast to soon and have a lot of unhappy customers to show for it.

Forget the pallet. I always have more fun with just the cardboard box.
  • Post in thread: EG 6500 PV doesn't seem to be working

You should be getting voltage at the PV input terminal screws on the inverter. If not then there's a problem somewhere between the panels and the inverter.
  • Post in thread: after 2 years of dependable use my lead acids have died. can i do better ?

There is one other option that I don't believe that has been mentioned. If you buy lifepo4 batteries you could keep them in the heated space with you. Just find a suitable place like under a dinette bench or something like that and as long as you are at a comfortable temperature they will be...
  • Post in thread: How long can you (and your family) survive if the grid went down for an extended period?

Yea no your pipes would never fill up, BUT your neighbors at the bottom of the mountain will have their houses filled up with excrement from everybody living above them. That shit rolling down hill will find the path of least resistance and that will usually be someone else's toilets and drains.

  • Post in thread: EG 6500 PV doesn't seem to be working

That means as long as you correctly identify your + and - cables coming from the panels you should be able to keep the correct polarity as long as you pay careful attention how the mc4 connectors are on the panels and then keeping the male and female mc4 connections correct after that. It...

  • Post in thread: Solar hot water system, help choosing right approach

Another method would be adding another water heater and putting up more panels and feeding the water heater directly from the panels. You would need to come up with a way to disconnect the solar when the water is hot enough as the a/c thermostat will eventually fail when fed dc current and would...
