  • Post in thread: Building a 72KwH battery system, help understanding these Li-ion modules.

Typically reusing EV modules is more economical and practical if you get them with BMS boards on them. I also have 12s modules, but they are from the BMW i3 (also Samsung). I use them with CAN bus, so every cel is monitored and the temperature sensors (a few in each module) are reused. I bought...
  • Post in thread: Deye Sun-12k-sg04lp3-eu weird Battery Discharge Behaviour when Battery Voltage is ABOVE Float/Absorbtion/Equalization Setting

I wouldn't expect to see imbalance quickly, only after a while. Anyway, I would just put active balancers on the battery and simplify the whole setup. That will save you lots of time. Anytime when the battery is going low or high, the active balancers will kick in.
  • Post in thread: Rack LFP battery models available in Europe other than Pylontech?

Yes I had the same question. In Europe you can hardly get these server rack batteries from Chinese brands. And the well reviewed brands are typically a bit harder to order out of China. (for example EG4)
  • Post in thread: Electric car charger/heat/AC with no batteries.

By now quite a few of home charging points have a solar only option. But that is always grid connected, taking energy what otherwise would be exported to the grid. I have the European version of a Bolt too (waiting for battery) and want to do that too. However, I noticed, that the SmartEVSE...
  • Post in thread: I'm looking for braggin' rights on my 9 year old Lead Acid pickup truck battery.

I recently bought a 4x4 Sprinter from 2012 and found out that the original lead acid starter is still in there. With a production date from 2011 or something (can't remember exactly) Ok it has very low mileage (40000miles only), but the van comes with a diesel water heater that needs to draw...
  • Post in thread: Which inverters can do AC coupled solar on LOADoutput?

Well the great thing about Victron is I know how to work with them. So it is not only about quality but also about support, and not spending a lot of hours that was a bit cheaper to buy. I will look into SMA a bit more now. I actually would like to go to high voltage but only in freedom of...
  • Post in thread: Server rack batteries in boats and vans?

Hi all, I am doubting to switch to serverrack batteries for vehicles, rather than custom made batteries. So lets say I am using the battery within spec, including temperature and humidity, what would be the issues? The front mounting points aren't enough, you would have to support them on the...
  • Post in thread: Which inverters can do AC coupled solar on LOADoutput?

@MisterB1959 Yes it is about not pulling new wires. Especially because distances become bigger and so on. Yes adding any kind of inverter in an AC coupled manner like you mention with SunSynk and tell it to keep the grid at zero or whatever, will work to some extent. But it is different from an...
  • Post in thread: Buying an EV battery from a half-burned car?

Hi all, A question to which the obvious answer is no, because of safety. However, I am still looking into it. Knowing that I have experience with specifically these BMW i3 NMC chemistry batteries (I have already been using them). Knowing that NMC chemistry can have thermal runaway (above 70...
  • Post in thread: Using excess solar to heat house

@Zwy You should do the 1200kWh (electrical) multiplied by the coëfficiënt of performance of the heat pump system (typically close to 5, not on the coldest days) and so the 61 dollar can be multiplied with that as well. So you save over 250 dollar each year, and you might get more savings...
  • Post in thread: Using excess solar to heat house

Yes I am actively working on a product, basically just an electric boiler, but one that makes it easier for a user to store excess energy in there. And heated in two stages. So half can be always ready for hot water, and the other part is for extra demand. Lot of technical people, like on this...
  • Post in thread: Epever MPPT charger confused by Renogy battery inactivity?

Hi, I put a new 200Ah Renogy bluetooth battery in an existing van. The van has a Victron DC/DC charger, and an Epever MPPT solar charger. Both the Victron and the Epever MPPT have been working, and I have also seen them working on the Renogy battery. Also the Renogy battery itself works fine, it...
  • Post in thread: EVE-280 cells should these be clamped tight or spaced for expansion?

Ok great. That would save me quite some days because I don't have much lying around to draw much current at the 3.6v in a fast way.
  • Post in thread: Using excess solar to heat house

By the way, yes air source heat pump systems can go into a defrost, reducing the efficiency at that point. However, it is dependend on many factors. And more important, overal system efficiency is still worthwhile in many places, meaning that it is cheaper to run than heating with natural gas...
  • Post in thread: What Can I personally do to help against climate change?

Well, I have Rc 5.0 and higher insulation, the house is tiny, it already runs cooling and heating with an AC. It has 5000Wp currently and 12kWh storage. I think it would do nicely over there, just might require more overhang to block out the summer sun. But yeah, I see low building standards...
  • Post in thread: Any inline 48v water heaters?

Haha not yet. I guess it is already available in EV vans, but those are high voltage systems from factory.
  • Post in thread: BMS with built-in relay?

Finally wired it correctly and got it running. The settings are all pretty straightforward as usual. Just one setting, the hardware overcurrent protection seems strange to me. It is maxed at 100A "The hardware discharge overcurrent protection is when the front-end detection chip detects that...
  • Post in thread: Disabling active grid-tied inverters

Yes. Well, I think the best way forward is to try and control the most sold inverters over here, through software or crude I/O on the inverter. That way you can at least serve quite a market share, the way it is intended. I agree with powering on several loads. I do that to at home. Water...
  • Post in thread: Which inverters can do AC coupled solar on LOADoutput?

Well because of that last part I think it is good to never fully charged the battery. For now the next project is just a combination of a few small houses with existing PV, doing peakshaving. Nothing special in terms of surges. However, I will eventually run into more business use with more...
  • Post in thread: BMS with built-in relay?

Well, it might work just fine. And if it was my own setup, I eould perhaps tinker along and get it right. But it was for a customer, a drive system. It just needs to work and I didnt have time anymore. Alsp there was 2 meters of wire between them. And perhaps any inrush current alreay triggered...
  • Post in thread: Using excess solar to heat house

He clearly states 1200kWh excess to the grid. 1200kWh with a coefficient of 4 to 5 means over 5000kWh thermal energy with a heat pump. 5000kWh thermal energy is the same as 500 cubic meters of natural gas, which should be the same as 17.500 cubic feet natural gas if my conversion to imperial...
  • Post in thread: Matching a 48v wind turbine to my 48v Victron setup

I have a 48v lithium battery at relatively low voltages (12s nmc so 49.2v it is fully charged) which already shows that I cannot use most wind turbine controllers (because the output voltage is not configurable) I want to experiment with a 48v 500w chine wind turbine. If it will only bring me...
  • Post in thread: What Can I personally do to help against climate change?

Yeah in Australia yoi have much more output from a solar panel and the demands are different. Our house might truly be offgrid in Australia, but here in the Netherlands I only reach like 2/3 or 3/4 of the year.
  • Post in thread: Which inverters can do AC coupled solar on LOADoutput?

Thanks I will check them out. I should have written I am looking at this from a European perspective with EU grid code, meaning that all existing grid-tied PV inverters should indeed be able to work with frequency shifting. Projects usually consist of peak shaving and/or self consumption, but...
  • Post in thread: Help me identify this li-ion battery

We have a winner :D Great, they look pretty nice to work with for the DIY person. Just like Mitsubishi cells, but probably better performance/weight etc.
  • Post in thread: DC powered mini-split versus AC, efficiency worth it?

Yes it makes sense to have a 12 or 24v circuit for lighting, to have more options. But, these retro transparent filament LED bulbs use these LED sticks which are all 50v as far as I know. I think it would be great to have these bulbs but instead of 4 of these 50v sticks in series (for 230v AC)...
  • Post in thread: BMS with built-in relay?

I am getting a bit annoyed by now, I can't get the 15th and 16th cells to go away. I have measured the resistance from the start of the balance circuit for the 14th cell up to the 20th cell, which are now all wired together, and they all read the same resistance value. In the app I can see the...
  • Post in thread: What Can I personally do to help against climate change?

@wattmatters Thanks for explanation. I am working on similar product ideas, but in a more simple way. Apart from a boiler which has this all integrated (and is in two stages) I would like to control boilers on/off. Here in (mainland) Western-Europe things typically go a bit differently. We...
  • Post in thread: I'm looking for braggin' rights on my 9 year old Lead Acid pickup truck battery.

Well (fortunately?) we don't have any Walmarts over here in Europe haha, but anyway it is a common van so a new battery is quickly found. I kind of want to see how long it will go for. But now the use is intermittent, so the van is in storage and then gets used a lot in a short time. Anyway...
  • Post in thread: Have a dog? Don’t leave batteries laying around.

Also if you babies crawling around, they can sometimes find these button cell batteries and swallow them. Which ends badly.
