EG4 18kPV Q+A general thread

sure if I can locate it but I was on 10.11 from Marcus for over a week (early release) now the firmware updated to 11,11 are you saying that is older and has the grid feedback error?
I'm not sure they are actually using normal version numbers? From the Firmware Change Log there is a FAAB-1010 "version".. which causes a lot of confusion when naming stuff like that since you have no way of telling by the "version" what is newer or older.

Edit: one before that is FAAB-0D0E

its hex and it does make sense as 0d is less then 10. and 0E is also less then 11. in hex its 1-9, then 0A, 0B,0C,0D,0E, then 10.

Ahhh your making my brain hurt remembering stuff I forgot I learned.
It's all 1s and 0s at the end of the day ?.

Glad to see a logical naming convention from a programming / technical mindset.

well after updating to the latest firmware there is still a bug in that for us self-consumption users, it is again going to the grid when there is no need, 10.11 worked correctly but 11.11 does not, so they are going to redownload the older version for me.

Nope I am wrong it is updating firmware by eg4 remotely and that forces it to pull power from grid. I think the two times I saw that was when I updated from 10.11 early today and now while they are either redoing that update or restoring the old firmware 10.11, until it finishes I cannot tell. As someone said a change log on the firmware would be a valuable asset to have.

well back to 10.11 by EG4 but still no-one answers teh question if there is a bug in 11.11 why they release it with a higher number than 10.11 that has the bug fixed. Now that I look at the data for the 4 hours I ran on 11.11 I don't see any errors anyway. fyi SS guys you didn't need to restart the inverter when you do a firmware update as it runs on direct grid and is in standby when you do the firmware update. all you do by restarting it is wipe out all my clocks and internet etc.....

Hello rmacgurn, could you DM me your station and serial number so I can assist in firmware updating your inverter?
Ty can you tell me what is the difference between 11.11 (the last July release) and the prerelease with older number 10.11 that I had and now have again?

Wow, a huge shout out to Gilbert in Hawaii who logged into my 18kpv this morning, asked me a bunch of questions, did some reprogramming and has it running super smoothly now. Amazing. Thanks so much again Gilbert.
We’re glad to see that you are happy with the performance now. Keep telling us if any challenge ahead. Thx

Most human beings don't count in base 16 ;)
I did my tax return in base 16 one year. Hey, they didn't specify. :ROFLMAO:

Base 16 (hexadecimal) is the standard in things like MAC addresses where you need really high count capability in the least number of characters. But yeah, I don't think I would do version numbers in hex. It's not like you're going to have THAT many versions.

What type of terminal is used for the BAT+ and BAT-? I see that you use a hex wrench to screw it down but is it designed for finely stranded cabling and has a plate that compresses the cable or what? The manual doesn't actually mention anything about that connection. It does mention using ferrules for the PV and AC connectors for finely stranded.

Why? I've not seen that requirement anywhere.
Well known it is in NEC Section 690
