What Mini-Split did you use, and Why?

I've been looking to add another split in the kitchen. I would not buy anything that isn't hyperperformance after installing the first unit. Once the temp dropped late this fall, it spend more time on defrost than running. Not that impressed. So only hyper for me from here on out.

EG4 12k BTU solar mini-split. Got this one, because it will run on PV during the day. (It's got its own inverter.)

Installed it myself. Easy, but a respectable amount of work.

Bought it from Signature Solar.

The Senville Aura seems to have the very best reviews that I could find at 4.7 stars from 400+ reviews. The Leto is not too far behind at 4.6 stars from 4,800+. The Aura's stats are really impressive to me and they're backing it with a really good warranty. People seem to really like both, not just in reviews on seller's sites like the amazon but guys on other sites forums as well.

On their site under Facts they state that one can DIY but must have the lines vac'd by a licensed tech to retain the warranty.
I think I found my mini-split.

Aura is their ultra-high efficiency 12000 btu unit.

There is a Blue Ridge product that has a perfect rating and it's absolutely credible because it says so, right on the manufacture's website. Cherry pick'n motha.... That's pathetic.

I love my Senville Aura 24k. I installed myself and bought a 2 stage pump from harbor freight, a CPS micron gages for vacum, valve core remover, a cheap manifold kit and rented a 40lb nitrogen tank with regulator for about $15. Just followed some videos from AC Service Tech ,followed exactly. No issues, no leaks. Pressure test held at the Senville recommended value of 400psi for MY system for 6 hours, vacuum held at 200 microns for more than 2 hours. Bonus, I have everything I need to put in my Senville Aura 18k floor model on another floor in my cabin after the holidays.

Here is a graph of my system on the coldest day this year. Was maintaining temp (away from cabin) at 14 degrees and not consuming much energy.

A tip for buying Senville products, on Ebay don't pay {Buy Now] price, offer $125. less. Unit is often delivered faster than Amazon, same warranty .I just bought my fifth one yesterday!

That is a good tip. I was thinking I'd pick it up through walmart online. They'll take anything back.

Senville would rather send you a new compressor, than have you send it back. My first one came very low on refrigerant and by the time I figured the problem out, it was damaged. They sent a new one, although it took a month to get it.

That's my point. Manufacturers do not want people to return their trash to the store. It's written on most products in the manual. So there you wait a month while they take they're sweet-ass time because QC is lacking.
Rather than allow them to put you through the ringer, you've got options when you buy from a big box store. You've got options when you don't as well, but it's so much easier with a large chain store.
When I installed my powered driveway gates, the circuit board or mother board was bad. It actually was not wired correctly. It was backwards and the gates opened in reverse order. I wired it backwards and got it to work, but the lock didn't function as a result. I screwed around with that pos for some hours and said f it. I bought a new setup, packed up the problem child which was the control box and sent it on it's way back to Lowes. The new one arrived a week later and viola.

That's pretty efficient, my Aura 12k uses about .7kw when below 40 degrees outside. of course,
being spoiled in California, my thermostat is at 70 not 64.

It’s great. Usually 70 for us also but not at the cabin but once a month. Keep it 65ish to keep things warm. I’m shocked at how good this is at low temps and the cooling in the summer is fantastic.

I'm reading the manual now. I've got less electrical experience than an Amish person, so I'll see how much I've learned from my electrician/neighbor while installing the ac side for the solar system and see if I can do the electrical myself without burning my house down or getting shocked!

I've got a 220v plug in the garage attached to a double pole 50amp breaker in the panel. I'll assume for now that I've got 12/3 between the 2.

I'm planning on bringing that double pole 50amp to an electrical supply shop to find what I think would be a 20a double pole that will fit my panel.

I'll pull the 220v plug into the crawlspace and run it as close too the opposite side of the house as the existing cable will let me, where the mini will be, then put up a junction box and continue with added 12/3 to the mini's ac disconnect.

I need to figure out what needs to be in the ac disconnect box (another 220 double or a fuse?), but from there, 12/3 from the disconnect too the condenser.

Is this about how ya'll did your installs?

If it is only a 240v circuit, you may have 12/2 with ground rather than 12/3. Run 12/3 with ground if you think anyone will ever split this phase into 120v circuits.
Think there is NEC code which requires a 120v near the AC disconnect for service (old code before battery tools). If you don’t have one may need that. I ignored that code and ran a 30amp (24k btu requirement) double pole breaker in my panel to 10/2 romex to a junction box in my basement where I transitioned to 10awg thhn to the outside disconnect.

What size BTU unit are you looking at ? The 12k only requires a 15amp 2pole breaker, and 14-2 wire with ground. Near the outside unit, a non-fused AC shut off box will do, just ordered one from Amazon, $13.

Got to work on the lingo. I meant to say 2 hots & a ground and thought that's what 12/3 was.

Yes, the 12k. I didn't come across where this is mentioned in the manual yet. I did read elsewhere that a 20 amp 2 pole and 12/2 with a ground (which I thought was 12/3) is typical for 12k mini's so that's what I was going with until I read otherwise or I was corrected. Thanks for the correction. Now that you mention it, I looked at the stats I posted above and 15 is starring me right in my stupid lazy face! Ha!

I am referring to the Aura which is 230v. 14 gauge then? If I'm right and the cable from the 220 2 pole to the 220 plug is 12ga, can I terminate that into a junction box and go with 14/2 from there?

I've seen these pics before, in this thread I think.
I'm in the country, so nobody gives a damn what I do, which I love after having been a city dweller up until 2022.
I do have a 110 outlet and I do recall reading about this but I'm not sure if it's close enough to the mini's location. Maybe 25' away.

What were the main reasons for choosing the Aurora instead of a Pioneer Hyperformance (-22F) or Inverter ++ (-13F)?

I'm in the market for another Pioneer but if something better is out there I'm all for it.
