    Whole roof solar replacement

Finally got the ecoworthy panels I needed and just finished installing the panels..... Should have the last wiring tomorrow or Tuesday then will get the rest finished up. Still need to make final adjustments then screw each row down to make certain they're secured. Then clean the panels and...

    Multiplus vs Multiplus II

MP isn't the old version of the Mp2 they're just a bit different... Both are still sold. I wouldn't worry much about being in warranty it's a Victron. And if almost half price might as well get 2 You can always just go just 1 and run 1 leg of the 50a unless you think you'll use over 6kw...

Looking for the best big inverter for my van install

What's wrong with the Victron? It's the best

    Who makes a 12v to 48v (56v) converter?

I'm with you. I wouldn't trust a device like this with expensive gear on either side. Unless there's some way to protect against voltage spikes. I've already fried 10k+ of electronic gear when my alternator spiked to 16v. Also the battery BMS doesn't help as I've fried those too

    Fusing 48 to 12 Orion DC-DC

Mine looks like this. It's 24 coming in from alternator into 24/48 and 24/12 orions. Large fuse close to the alternator so nothing coming in but all outbound uses mrbf. They go into lynxs with additional fuses in there. My 12v wiring now sits on top. Very happy with the setup and at...

Maybe I should build a still?

I built one from 2 kegs with bulkheads for electric water heater elements and use a micro processor to set it in .1 percent increments. Comes out 160-170 proof. Aged using staves I get from maker Mark distillery. Quit drinking so just use it for cooking.

    Grounding and Starlink

Just use a cheap battery backup with ethernet protection ports on the side inside the house with all other electronic gear. I had an issue with a client that was hit by lightning on its coax line because they forgot to ground it. It went through the coax to the modem thru the firewall through...

    UPS Transfer Time - longer?

Because in some instances you want power to bounce equipment. Say you have a full N+1 or N+2 system where you have multiple reduncancies. If power is lost you might want 1 system to stay up with 4ms but the other one to wait a full second to come back online. This way the equipment fails...

    Adding 6 x 100 watt Renogy panels - which config: 3 serial x 2 parallel OR 2 serial x 3 parallel?

I'd go 2s3p if you're 12v. That'll put you at 15a 40v or so. Best for shading and such. Bigger panels are lighter and more watts per square foot, but this is just because brackets between the panels

    Adding 6 x 100 watt Renogy panels - which config: 3 serial x 2 parallel OR 2 serial x 3 parallel?

its 14gauge wire and has 15 amp series rating with each panel 5amps so can handle 3 strings. Glad you told me this as I was running 3s5p of these panels and assumed it was 10gauge so could combine 6 strings without issue... guess not.

    Adding 6 x 100 watt Renogy panels - which config: 3 serial x 2 parallel OR 2 serial x 3 parallel?

Why do you need fuses for 3 strings but not 2? Even if they were 6 strings they can be combined easily and all under 30a

    Whole roof solar replacement

Made some progress. Decided to screw the 100w panel into each slide then they counter balance each other and can easily slide back and forth together. There's enough room I can barely lay down between panels and slide them together then screw then back apart and crawl out. Also lowered the...

Trying to start a set up in my bus

I don't think it's the money because they would save. It's the fact they need to make a change and that requires retraining and completely new techniques. On top of this likley they're concerned if they make any electrical changes it'll require them to be a bit safer when running wires... And...

Trying to start a set up in my bus

Id bet a lot of the super Cs are 24v or at least have 24v components in the chassis. Like 95% of RVs are made by 3 companies and they are 5-10 years behind in everything.

Trying to start a set up in my bus

Very very popular on commercial coaches, busses and semi/trucks. About 80% of my chassis is 24v including bay lights and other things. Prevost busses and coaches have an option for a 24v 225k btu massive HVAC system. 24v is that sweet spot where almost every fuse and breaker system works...

Multiplus II - Warnings & Alarms

Export the excel file in vrm and note the time of the alarms then check all the DC voltages with a minute or so of that time. Work backwards from the inverter/vebus. I've noticed some voltages can be a few seconds or so off. I just hide all columns that aren't voltage, current, time then...

    Whole roof solar replacement

Theres plenty of room between the panels and roof for the panels to stay cool. The problem is the AC units and them pumping hot air under the panels if they're sealed up. I ordered 2 more ruuvi temp sensors for up there so will see. The rear has all my comms (starlink, cell booster, wifis)...

    Whole roof solar replacement

The wedges seem to work perfectly and have almost the perfect angle now. Got them test fitted and seems I have more room than I thought and these Ecoworthy bifacial panels are 18in wide and might be perfect for a center row of panels. Still need to finish installing the brackets and...

    Orion 24/12 70A parallel install

2/0 lug is gonna be hard to get on there. I'd suggest getting buss bars as it makes everything easier. Wire size looks good though

whole house power monitor is soooooo cool!

Who's your power company? I just found out home assistant has an integration called opower which can login to some electric companies and pull data right from the meter. It's 2 day old data though which kinda sucks but free. I have 2 houses in WV under Appalachian Power and pulling this...

    Trailer alarm system

What do you mean by alarm? There's plenty of battery powered door sensors and such to get alerted if door opens, same with motion. If you're looking for trailer disconnect alarm look into bike lock alarms and use with breakaway cable. If wanting to locate if stolen then an air tag is cheap...

RV 48V to power 12v Loads

What are you using for SCP? What specific fuse or breaker model and is everything UL listed? On top of all this if you're connected to an inverter and a large fuse blows you can get a massive voltage surge back to the alternator and other devices. I've had multiple fuses arc themselves shut...

RV 48V to power 12v Loads

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Idk the inner workings of a mppt vs a DC converter but Victron is very open and if it was safe they wouldn't add the disclaimer
  24. J

RV 48V to power 12v Loads

Pretty sure Victron specifically states not to use a mppt as a DC converter. Also pretty sure the mppts can short the PV side if error. Nbd for solar panels but with a battery you'd be blowing fuses at a minimum

12v alternator: is 24v system worthwhile?

If you're switching from lead acid then you'll want a DC DC converter or multiple. Doesn't really matter is 12/12 or 24/12 or even 48/12 I believe efficiency is the same. Also efficiency doesn't matter much, 1hp makes like 900w so even if 80% efficient you're only burning 1.2hp vs 1hp...

48V upgrage in a fifth wheel?

OP should get 6hours to run 1AC off batteries then charge up using the genny in 2 hours. On top of this with 1800w solar it should basically keep up with the AC running during the day so its basically just for the nighttime which shouldn't need to be on all the time depending on outside temps...

48V upgrage in a fifth wheel?

I have same setup as you with 2 SOK batteries 200ah and huge power hog of an RV. I added a 3rd 12v Quattro 5000 with its 10kwh battery and it pulls AC power from the 48V quattros. Not only does it give me all the 12V i could ever want and a huge charger but I can swap from charging to inverting...

48V upgrage in a fifth wheel?

1 AC is under 1500w so 48v/200a/10kwh means you should get 6.6hrs runtime from batteries alone. This is where inverter efficiency and idle consumption matters. If you're running the EG4 6000 then it's a HF inverter with like 115w idle consumption. 1800w of solar should be enough to run 1 AC...

48V upgrage in a fifth wheel?

Ignoring price, what is a better solution than Victron? My Quattro 5kws run around 40w idle but the MP3000s are like 9w. They have a 2x120 for split phase 50a and you can parallel or split phase multiple inverters to build the system you want.
  30. J

48V upgrage in a fifth wheel?

You can still use the 50a cord and just 1 leg so you get 6000w instead of 30a 3600w.

48V upgrage in a fifth wheel?

The main difference between the Quattro and the multiplus is the Quattro has 2 inputs so switches gen/shore. All Victron inverters are 120v. Don't even look at the 230v ones those are euro. But they make a special 2x120 model like the one below. Not sure if they make 48v though or Quattro...

    Whole roof solar replacement

So far so good. I have some angle washer things from Amazon coming tomorrow so hopefully they'll work to adjust the angle of superstruts. Have to determine if and how much I want the panels to overhang the awnings. My roof is super curved so there's lots of room but worried about...

48V upgrage in a fifth wheel?

I have this inverter and if you want 240v/50a shore you need 2 of them. I think they make a Quattro2 2x120 like the MP2 2x120 so you can get it and that'll use both legs of shore Without 2 you can still get 120v 50a from shore just not using that 2nd hot leg. It's still 6000w and Victron does...

    Whole roof solar replacement

Finally getting around to upgrading my panels. I'm trying not to drill anymore holes in the roof so plan is to utilize the Girard awning brackets and the threaded rods I initially installed. I'll be mounting these Renogy 320w panels horizontal and tilted up a bit to get above all the ACs...

Roof Layout Suggestions on New Camper

If you go superstrut you can easily unscrew the panels and move them so you can walk. On top of this having a collaspable ladder in a bay allows you to get on the roof from any spot. I don't really know why people are getting on their roofs all the time. When I started my install I put the...
