I am replacing my gas generator with solar batteries which will be use to provide limited power during power outage. I am looking for an auto transfer switch that will detect when a power outage occurs and will allow batteries to provide the limited power I will need for up to three days. Thanks in advance for any help. Bill

Current Power Backup System for Home Power Outages

Required circuits have power as long as the gas generator is running.

  • Gas Generator (Troy Bilt 5500) connected to switch.
  • Switch (Reliance control model 30216BRK)
Switch to Battery Backup System for Home Power Outages

Battery should provide power of required circuits for several days when taking in account that some of the special devices will not be using power for 24 hours every day.

Considering System

Inverter is connected to the switch, 48V battery, 110v wall receptacle to charge battery and power inverter. Down the road would like to charge batteries with solar power.

  • 48v battery is connected to the inverter.
  • Inverter output is connected to ATS and also charges battery.
  • 110v connected to inverter to provide power for the inverter.
  • Switch has inverter input power and power from utility company.
  • Switch output be 110v and 220v.
Way down I would like to use solar power for the whole house and sell surplus power to the electric company. So, expandability is desired but not mandatory. What is mandatory is getting rid of the gas generator and using solar batteries for backup. Thanks in advance for any recommendations or heads up…Bill
