I have a Magnum 4448 that is 15 years old, I just retired it. Not because it was broken, only because I needed to upgrade to a larger system. It probably could last another 5-10 years. I replaced it with dual Schneider XW Pro which is a proven platform that can last up to 20 years. My parents...
  • Post in thread: Need help/wisdom to decide between Schneider or Victron system

I have a Schneider system that has been Commissioned for about 2 months and is running smoothly. I have 2 XW pros, 3 MPPT 100's, with Insight facility, running closed loop with 2 Fortress Evault max batteries. Schneider has some you tube videos on the XW Commissioning process, you could watch...

    Polaris connectors?

They are expensive, if you have alot of connections it probably doesn't make sense.
  • Post in thread: the rapidly changing inverter landscape

I have cut many 4x6's with a 12" compound miter saw and did not blow the breaker or burn it up, my low frequency inverter just kept working.
  • Post in thread: the rapidly changing inverter landscape

Yes that makes sense, Bogging the saw down or binding it to a stop will be a longer duration of heavy load then saw start up.

I have a friend that replaced a old outback system with Solark, the old system was 2 3648 watt outback inverters, ran 2 well pumps, a pressure pump and everything in the house just fine. Replaced with a Solark 12k and 28kwh of lithium batteries with a 8 foot section of 4/0 battery cable. With...
  • Post in thread: Cut Sheet Template?

Here is a cut sheet from a Schneider XW Pro inverter and Hanwha Q cells 480 solar panels
  • Post in thread: Suggestions for whole house off-grid system?

You are looking at buying a solar system at a great time, it is way cheaper now then even 3 years ago You seem to be on the right track, it's better to plan for the future, loads usually go up not down.
  • Post in thread: XW PRO AGS warm up cycle

AC2 reconnect is only for the delay of connection after power qualification, it does not set the time the generator cools down after power disconnection from the generator. Ags cool down time is configurable through the SCP in the CFG gen menu. Here is the ags manual

https://product-selection.grundfos.com/us/products/sqflex/11-sqf-2-95027335 I have this model, I run it on direct solar or on 120v ac direct from my inverter, the SQF is not just a soft start but it has a slow ramp up so it can be started in a solar direct application
  • Post in thread: EG4 Indoor 280Ah 48v WallMount Battery

I am curious what the maximum amount of batteries that can be used, and still maintain closed loop communication.
  • Post in thread: Schneider XW Pro DIY Resources

I have Dual Xw Pro Commissioned in January of this year, running off grid the firmware i am running is Insight Facility at v1.18 and XWP 2.04.00 build 29
  • Post in thread: Need help/wisdom to decide between Schneider or Victron system

It handles loads good, I have loaded the inverters to 10k watts, but I want to do a full 13.6k load test soon. With the insight monitoring program I was able to watch amps, volts and Hertz on L1 and L2 of both inverters with that 10k load, to make sure everything was in spec. I have some cheap...

Good news you got the generator to charge. You could probably up the charge rate to around 5kw on that generator. 75% of the max output is what I was always told to shoot for on a generator. But this also depends on your loads while charging, so it is site specific. It looks like you have a...
  • Post in thread: Spinoff from house burning LFP vs AGM vs Lead Acid - Why not just run the older tried and true stuff?

They are expensive, but it was the only UL9540A testing I have seen that lists data of how the test was performed. There are other batteries that are UL9540A certified. Maybe some of those companies can provide that data too? Just for clarification UL9540A and UL9540 are too different things.
  • Post in thread: New construction line set placement

Is it common for the lines to be on one side or the other of the inside unit? What is common for doing a rough in of line sets? Any special bracket? I don't want sheetrock guys screwing up the linesets. Do the lines need to go straight down or can they go over and then down? For example can the...
  • Post in thread: XW PRO AGS warm up cycle

I talked to schneider tech support. The tech told me that gen warmup does not work on a 2 wire auto start. He said that is for a different generator type, but he couldn't tell me which one. The thing is the XW pro just needs to delay the AC2 power while the generator is in the set warmup time...
  • Post in thread: Cut Sheet Template?

Im my situation they just wanted cut sheets for every component listed on my single line diagram, no cut sheets for emt or wire, but I did include a cut sheet for my dc disconnects from my panels. Do you have a single line diagram?
  • Post in thread: Schneider XW6848+ Cleanup

Thanks for sharing the XW maintenance manual, I have XW Pro but I think they are similar.
  • Post in thread: Philips may have created the best LED bulb yet

I had a problem with the E12 Base Candlabra bulbs flickering when my washer was on the spin cycle. I tried a few different bulbs and finally bought the Phillips flicker free E12 base candleabra bulbs, they work great with no flicker.
  • Post in thread: Cut Sheet Template?

I turned in a cut sheet that has technical specifications for every component when I recently applied for a permit. Sometimes they are called data sheets. I included one for every component listed on my single line diagram The permit was approved
  • Post in thread: Suggestions for whole house off-grid system?

I see people talk about the price of a monthly utility but not talk about the price to replace solar system components. If solar panels last 30 years, batteries last 20 years and your inverter last 15 years maybe you have a generator on site too? what is the cost to replace and maintain those...
  • Post in thread: Schneider BCS Help

The way understand it is, each XW has a 60 amp relay, there is no guarantee that all the relays will close at the same time, so all the power could be momentarily passed through 1 relay before the others close. The more XW's the bigger the chance of it happening. This is why the BCS is...
  • Post in thread: the rapidly changing inverter landscape

I have a 15 year old Magnum 4448 inverter, built a whole house with it, never died but it did shut off from overheating many times.
  • Post in thread: Philips may have created the best LED bulb yet

    I agree
  • Post in thread: Schneider XW Pro commission

I agree your charge rate is most likely too high The things that control generator charging is ac2 breaker size, and charge rate percentage, which is a charge rate of the breaker size, There is also max bulk charge amps, and absorb max charge amps. I think the XW pro defaults to the lowest value...

For Low battery cut out there is a way to change how close to cut out you will get the warning. I just looked at insight local and did not see a way to change the high battery cut out warning. You might have to change the high battery cut out to 58.3 so you don't keep getting those warnings.
