And it is going back, having to depend on an android app is causing difficulties. It won't work with my 3 year old phone. Ordering a different one.

Bone dry decomposed granite.... the only way my wife got a garden was by me bringing in 30+ truckloads of aged horse manuer We live at 9144ft and high humidity is about 40%, is about 20% all winter.

I always used to do that when I lived in Texas ... just dump the dry quickcrete into the hole and water it for a few days, worked fine. Tried that when I moved to Colorado for a mailbox post - a month later it was still dry insde except for the top and sides.

    Swapping out

I like it, looks good. One suggestion - turn the switch so the wires feed from the sides - take the strain off the upper cable or secure it to something. Precharge resistor - only needed when you turn on the system. I had a little 3" cubic plastic box laying around. So I put a NO (normally...

    Solar wiring plan feedback

If you have 2 in series you will need to get an active balance to keep them from drifting apart. The internal resistances are not ever identical even though they are close to several decimal places. So when the charge current comes through the one with lower resistance charges more than the...

    My build thread

Last time I needed this sort of thing done I paid the local kid (18) to run the wheelbarrow and do all the heavy lifting. We agreed on $20 an hour and he was happy to have it. I did give him some extra for saving my back. Was worth every penny.

FLIR 1 pro - wanted the higher resolution and extra mode. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0716ZGL7C/ I just happen to have an old Galaxy A7 in a drawer so I can use it when testing things as the display. Funny they still call it FLIR (Forward looking Infrared) - Seems like calling it a...

    House burned down

Got a new toy to measure temps with -- waiting on an arm to hold the thing steady on my work bench. Then I will test some fuse resistances before and while current is running through them. The heatgun is the hot spot at the top, that is a MRBF fuse (3), the lug connected to the battery (1) ...

    Unintended ground rod

Just to get straight in my head - Assume a shed with metal roof 100ft from house with solar panels on it. Shed structure is wood - I would run a EGC from the hose and connect the roof and panel frames to it so everything is the same potential. Same shed, but with metal frame sunk into the...

    TCT & MPPT

One other dumb thought - the corroded MC4 you cut off, is it possible the corrosion extended up the wire into the sheath? It would cause a small drop that might show on a thermal camera. You could also check it with a watt meter connected between the cables to see if it is the same as the...

    Unintended ground rod

Do you mean it should be connected to the main ground rod as a second connection? I.E. just another clamp around the rod with the wire from the roof attached? Different but similar question - my telco when they put in the network interface box put a short rod 6 inches away from the main...

    My build thread

Question from someone not in construction - but I see the rebar down in the hole and then I see threaded rods sticking out of the concrete. Are they tied together? or how are the threaded parts attached? Seems like one picture shows smooth concrete with only a couple inches to spare to set...

    grunfos cu200

If you take a wider angle on your picture - i.e. step back or zoom less so all wires are visible it will help. If you are comfortable take the covers off or open up the items that are wired up and take another picture. The purpose is to see where and how the wires route and what they are...

What was your most interesting recent non solar project?

I saw this from a documentary of the Parthenon in Greece. That is how they got the different sections of the columns flat enough to mate with nothing but wooden plugs to center them.

I see your point, good info. These fuses ? Still the wrong ones but it appears they do have a DC rating if that is them.

Makes ya wonder how hot they get.

Class T fuse holder termination - I think I screwed up.

The ignition protected one will get hotter since it only has small slits for ventilation. The other if mounted vertically will shed heat pretty well. But, taking the fuse covers off the non-ignition version is a royal PITA, I personally would always get the latch covered ones.

Black neoprene can be conductive if it contains carbon as a colorant. Lots of black things use carbon in some amount. Might not be enough to just measure with a meter, what about a short?

5 rules - Never trust the advertising on Amazon for anything unless it is a vendor/brand/type you have researched outside of amazon Always do your own research, only listen to people you trust/respect and still at least do a little research. Class T fuse holder termination - I think I screwed up.

I do know the NEC requires any DC wires inside a building to be in metal conduit, this goes for PV wires, cables between batteries and inverters, or any others. Not sure if there is a cutout for the low amp signal wires but I am sure there is. Also no AC carrying wires in the same conduit or...

Class T fuse holder termination - I think I screwed up.

They are for high current DC wires. So with PV wires I wouldn't thing it matters except they can be long runs. Higher voltage would mean less current and I would have to look up which makes an antenna radiate more RF. But without changing like AC or a modulated signal I would wild guess it...

Class T fuse holder termination - I think I screwed up.

Well, seems like the rules are for it to be in metalic conduit if it is inside a building. That can be the flexible kind or rigid. If I read the Mike Holt reference for solar wiring the Pos and Neg should be in a minimal twist around each other. But conduit rules say wires go in straight with...

Class T fuse holder termination - I think I screwed up.

There are rules about how many of what size you can put inside a conduit and the size conduit you have to use. I am not sure if they cover the sheath types because welding wire for instance is much thicker than THHN so it would take a size or two up either way. And I know there are deratings...

Class T fuse holder termination - I think I screwed up.

One more tidbit I found - And it seems like "Fine stranded" THHN is commonly refered to as battery wire like they use in a car. More strands than standard but not as many as welding wire. We really need a good resource write up on the various types of wire commonly available with a...
