Half price electric cars

What about a Model 3 makes it a high-end offering?
He said "starts" with higher end offerings. Tesla started with a $110k two-seater based on the Lotus Elise. They then brought out the 75-100k Model S and X before moving downmarket to the 35-50k Model 3.

What doesn't make sense is the EV is a lot more simple to build and should be cheaper than it's ICE counterpart.
$10k battery pack vs. $75 gas tank.

It also doesn't make sense to me that people would think that traditional car makers can't just retool and make a car with a motor batteries.
You'd think, but they've proven to be particularly incompetent. Even when they design a decent one they can't sell enough volume to make it financially viable. VW is 5x Tesla's size with a vastly larger retail footprint, poured 10+ billion into ID4, built factories on 3 continents and sold 192k of them last year. About 375k if you include sister cars Audi Q4 and Skoda Enyaq. Tesla sold 1.2 million Model Ys.

That isn't peanuts to him, and it didn't change much at all. Other than just banning anyone that talks bad about him or tesla the site is pretty much the same as it was (minus the large loss of people to bluesky, threads, and truth social)
People didn't leave twitter for truth social because of Elon, they left twitter for truth social because it became an option.

If you can't see how Twitter has changed from basically being a mouthpiece and fully tame pet of the Democrat party prior to Elon buying it I don't know what to tell you.
It's virtually the same crap shoot it has always been. Why would I go somewhere to be spoon fed crap instead of just doing my own thing? I understand why you guys want to be told what to think, but I just figure my own stuff out.

wow excellent observation sherlock, but not relevant.... It changed, the reason why isn't being discussed

Like the rare 1978 Dodge diesel?

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=60,000+dollar+replacemnt+battery

The Olds 350 diesel was notoriously unreliable culminating with the FTC getting GM to pay for engine replacements. Diesels began to be used meaningfully in pickups in the 1980s. Chevy came out with the 6.2L in the 1982.
Yep that's what I posted
the 1978 GM and dodges had them (dodge partnered with Mitsubishi)

chevy AND ford came out with them in 1982 so something of those previous years must have gotten people excited and made them push them out a few years later. (no idea what it was like in the car area back then)
I'm sure whoever started first, knew the other one was making them so they started too

My parents had 2 of the GM diesels. Horrible problems with wrist pins. First car ('78) they replaced the engine as it failed with 80k miles. Second car they gave us the engine but we had to pay to have it installed (120k on it, 100k was dividing line). But by that time they had it mostly right as the car had another 150k on it when we retired it. But being NA it made no power. Olds used a 3 speed auto and it would get high 20's mpg. Cadillac used the same engine with a 4 speed auto (OD) and it would get high 30's mpg.

I don't have to get kicked in the nads to know it's not for me.
Oh for sure it won't be for everyone, and no one is forcing anyone to buy one. ICEVs will be around for decades.

At the moment I would not recommend an EV to my brother due to his vehicle use case. That will probably change in a couple of years but not right now. He got to drive mine and was mightily impressed though.

I'm in rural Australia and the highway charge network wasn't the best but in the last few months significant improvements have been made, mostly due to more Tesla Supercharger sites opening and allowing non-Teslas to use them. They are the most reliable network here and also have the most charge stations. Charger network density is continually getting better and getting some govt support at Federal and State level. Long highway trips are now little issue.

Most of our driving is either <5 km (local town) or <100 km trips (local regional centre). Every so often a 220 km trip to my brother's place (no issue with a 350+ km range) and one or two 1000 km trips a year. I have no need to tow but I may put a tow bar on for small trailer use to collect garden stuff or a trip to the tip / take mower in for service. Bloody mower uses more fuel than anything now, about $850/year!

But there is so much made up nonsense and falsehoods about EVs it's like playing a game of EV FUD bingo.

what was the average miles before failure of the regular trucks back then, is their government data for that?
All the people posting for almost any vehicle are always those people that had it for half a million miles and their 1 use case says it lasts forever. Always someone for every car/truck lol

So you can force people who can’t afford it to pay $8000 for a car?
If ma and pa are buying a used Mercury then suddenly the tax is worth more than the car.

Doesn’t seem to altruistic or even feasible.

Unless you are talking about new cars which no one is buying anyway.
Get a used one. And does a person need a v8 pickup just to get groceries? Many v8 vehicles are $80k + anyway.

We do. Do you commute to work for more than 5 minutes?
Does your wife order groceries online and you get them put in the back of your truck behind of walmart?
Get an F150!

I once worked with a guy that did a lot of patent design for Fisker on their Karma. He told me they were constantly resubmitting patents for the same item just to look like they were innovating. The whole thing was a scheme back then.

Who said people are buying Trucks?
Know how many cars have V-8s?

You didn’t answer the question.

Is this $8000 tax for ICE just for new vehicles, used Vehicle’s or both?

around 85% of patents get rejected, isn't it normal to constantly resubmit stuff?

Commute is closer to 25 minutes and is done in an EV.
I have a 2001 F150 to pull the RV trailer.
Never ordered groceries delivered. Never used DoorDash/uber eats or similar. Really never.
Never do curbside either.

For your average person that doesn’t need stop all the time how much time does it cost?
I can drive from Northern California to LA with one thirty minute stop to charge. I have seen a lot of average looking people at rest stops in no rush to get back in their cars so I don't think there is a simple answer.

A new v8 is pretty much a luxury vehicle now days. Do luxury vehicles need to be affordable to everyone?
Most would pay half that as affordable is a 4 banger. Remember the gas guzzler tax? It was a bit before its time.

Imagine the premium on a billionaire getting v12 Bugatti or similar. That would be horrible.

Damn well 25 minutes you need a twin V8 diesel tank for that kinda commute in america
