Valence software

Anyone using the Valence software. have you figured out what all of the information is?

Is the WH Disch the total for the life of the battery? I'm guessing that PCBA temp is temp of the BCM and cells 5 & 6 are random since they don't exist.
Notice that in the above photo there are only three tabs. Battery info, Event log and Battery system info.
This screenshot was taken from my Windows 10 laptop while it was reading module 1.

In the photo below it is from my desktop that is too far from the batteries to hook up. Also a Windows 10 machine.
Notice there are 5 tabs. Battery info, Event log, Cal constants, Battery control and Battery system info.

If I can buy this battery for 349.00 plus 25.00 shipping is that a good deal?

Got the software working. I see similar to what somewhereinusa does... Running as a user, I see 5 tabs in the lower section, but cannot select a com port, thus the rest of the fields are blank. Running as administrator, I can select the com port, see data, and only have 3 tabs. I have a feeling this software was built for Win XP and the tighter security of things in \Program Files is creating problems. I may try to load this up on an XP machine I use for car diagnostics and see what happens.

Temp Sensors 5 and 6 are pulling numbers out of their butts. This screen shot was taken right after the SCC said the battery was full on the LiFePO4 charge profile. The Balance active button did come on during the charging cycle as well. I disconnected the computer from the battery and let it sit over night. When I hooked the computer back up, the cells were "balanced". I think it's safe to say the battery will balance on it's own.

It also appears that bank 2 is the weak one as it doesn't want to go above 3.429v during the charge cycle. The other battery I got also seems to have a weak cell. It doesn't go above 3.420v.

Up next, I'll hook up the inverter and run a load for a while to see how the battery does on the discharge side of things.

Discharge test went well, cells stayed balanced on the way down, till 3.1 v, then one hit 3.0 before the others. I was just running my fridge, so max draw was 35 amps when it went into defrost mode. I played around with the numbers in the limits section and it looks like those can't really be changed. I changed the values, but the red boxes still turned on based on what the old values were, not the ones I had set. These may need to be set using the Valence external BMS. Got 76 AH out if it over 16 hours. SOC from Valence software was 3% at the end. Voltage was 12.162.

I ran my heat/boiler, plus a desktop computer, today as a test. Just using my Victron battery monitor. At about the 9 hour mark I shut it down. My heat is a bit inefficient beacuse of a 110 volt to DC voltage converter. Total Ah used was 235 and 13.02 V. I have used 391 Ah in the past at ll.88 V and still hadn't shut down.
So far I have found the Victron battery monitor to be pretty inaccurate for state of charge percent. When it shows 0% I still have lots of time left. I don't think I have the settings right although I have used what Victron recommends.

I noticed my cheap battery monitor disagreed with the Valence software on Amp readings. Valence was 1 - 4 amps higher. The monitor SOC was way off. I had a heck of a time even getting it to display anything. I was trying to set 14v as max and 12 as empty. Nothing doing. Eventually got it to show something with 14 and 10. The Watt Hours count is very different as well. The monitor shows 984 WH for the run, the Valence SW showed 1383 WH, which I think is closer to the real number as that would be right at 80% of the 1700WH when the battery was new. Re calculating AH using WH from the Valence SW results in 113AH delivered during the test, not 76. If the battery monitor with shunt is that inaccurate, I don't see much use for it other than reading voltage Did the Victron BM do any better with the WH/AH readings?

I'm going to turn my dehumidifier loose on the second battery and see how it goes with a much higher current draw. Should be a near constant 50 amps.

I did not realize it was 40 amps till I check it out. Now I am looking at the 100 amp.

I ran another unscientific test again today. Starting with a full charge until the inverter shut down due to low voltage. It seems my Victron battery minder is a lot more accurate than I had first thought. When the the inverter shut down at 18% SOC or so. By calculations I should have 441 Ah available at shut down I had used 439. Time remaining figures are way off. I ran the heat until I got tired of it about 8 hours then I turned both ACs on until shutdown, about 3.5 hours. SOC on the Valence software went down but, no where near that low. ????. Here's the results of the battery minder.
This should be a link to a google sheet
Spreadsheet

I think I'll do a run till shut down test with the Valence SW logging every 30 seconds or so and keep an eye on it's SOC vs voltage. I noticed during my fridge test that the Valence SOC was at 3%, yet the battery voltage was still at 12.1v. Sort of makes me wonder if the SOC scale can be tweaked by the setup with the Valence BMS, like the Cell Min/max warnings...

I just bought "Valence Lithium Battery U27-12XP | 12V 138AH 1.766 kWh BUNDLE. This bundle includes 2 9.5 inch copper connection cables and 1 BMS cable " as the ad states. This has U-Charge whatever that means I hope it is the same battery everyone uses. You said " Software" does the battery come with software so you can run these test " ?
Copper wires for putting them in Parallel?
What does the BMS cable connect to?
Is there a PDF on using a Valence?

I found some PDF's on sites other than Valence. I will see if they can answer my questions. Fell free to go ahead answer them especially if the batteries I ordered are the ones you guys use.

I think I saw the add for what you bought. From what I can tell it yours are coming from Milwaukee they are all from the same Smith truck. Valence doesn't offer support for the likes of us. Pirated software is available. Info is scarce if you have found some please share. Do a search on this site for Valence, there are two or three threads.

I just googled Valence 12xp u charge. So far just data sheets.

Are these the same batteries everyone uses?
