Seems as if someone should have read the spec sheet. When I first got into solar / off-grid I was doing a LOT of research. One of the things I found is that people don't read spec sheets and then fault the manufacturer for what they "thought" was true. Victron gets a lot of abuse in this regard...

Until we have a general population that is willing to answer these two questions truthfully, nothing is going to change. Are you better off today than you were in 2020? Is the USA better off today than it was in 2020? I can answer both honestly and easily with a resounding "NO !!!" My cost of...

Yep and it will not happen quickly enough, according to the doomsday predicters of climate change. Everything I see these doomsday people saying is we have until 2030 before it's all over. I'd be stunned if the US has replaced even 25% of ICE vehicles with EVs by 2030. I'd also be stunned if...

To be fair almost all melted / burnt fuse holders are caused from poor connections, not from faulty fuses. There's a huge difference.

I built my bank with the DOCAN 304 AH cells. I used the new SOK BMS and it all fits nicely in the NOCO battery box pictured. Battery box is $12 at WalMart and it comes with a strap to secure it and a cover that easily fits over the cells and wiring.
  • Post in thread: Have you had a Sol-Ark Failure?

The airline industry is one that would respectfully disagree with you. :) As a former Blackbelt I can assure you that completed assemblies can and do strive for 6s. It's all in the data gathering and measurement systems. Toyota is another great example of a company that took the learnings from...

More fantasy writing. I'm sure all of your "hoping" is going to fix the problem. As you sit in your high chair, insulting everyone who posts a point counter to your own beliefs, does it ever occur to you that there just might be two or more correct answers to a problem? I laughed at your "left...

  • Post in thread: Inflation Reduction Act may be Unconstitutional - Take your Credits ASAP

This is one of the most disappointing aspects of life in America today. Unreal that a country with over 1/3 of a BILLION in population cannot offer up better candidates than the ones we see, year after year after year...

  • Post in thread: Sol-Ark not a good company to deal with 12k

If one is installing the unit to enable the gathering of power from solar panels and also reaping the benefit of having an inverter and a battery bank charger the labeling makes perfect sense. It is not a question of morals - it is a question of whether the information is accurate and easily...

I don't know who you are referring to with your stupid commentary but I don't always forget anything. Shut up or put up. I have posted data - you keep saying nobody posts data and everyone builds strawman arguments. You are made of straw... Please show me all of the "big oil" people who...

According to our own EPA, transportation is the single largest contributor to greenhouse gasses. Converting all private vehicles to electric is a very long-term thing. So much for attacking that problem for "short-term" emission reductions. Solar, hydro and wind are simply not capable of...
  • Post in thread: Poof goes the inverter, but not the RV! Phew

This is an easy way for your friend to protect their RV from a myriad of electrical faults, including what happened to you: Progressive Industries EMS-PT50X Mine cost me $250. It has detected 3 miss-wired or faulty pedestals so far. The low voltage detection, coupled with the two minute delay...
  • Post in thread: Actual power output of a Victron Multiplus 2000VA on 12V?

According to the Victron spec sheet the Quattro 5000 / 12:24:48 will supply 5,000 VA or 4,000 watts @ 25° C, not 5,000 watts. It supposedly can supply 10,000 watts peak. Victron is a true engineering company. They rate in VA because that is the proper way to rate equipment that...

I understand that. I bought this house in 2010. I paid $245K and I refinanced some years later and locked in a 2.1% loan. My neighbors recently sold their house. Their realtor came over and asked me if I wanted to sell. He told me he could get me $650,000 for the house and he could get it in a...
  • Post in thread: Solar Build for Travel Trailer - Requesting Help

If you are planning on boondocking for longer periods of time I think more battery capacity is going to be a bonus. Adding another solar panel will help too. One thing I think you should consider is an inverter / charger. That simplifies system design and it allows you to charge your batteries...

I have read every post in this thread. My sincere best wishes to the OP and his family. That is a horrible experience. Funny you mention the Salton sea. I read an article that had a paragraph on potential lithium extraction from the brine water there. "Direct lithium extraction offers an interesting domestic application in the Salton Sea, a highly saline and polluted body of water in California that currently...

  • Post in thread: Need sanity check on Victron Orion-Tr + Smart Shunt wiring please

@amartin - If you rotate your busbars 90° you can re-shape them to look like they do now but the text orientation will match the rest of the drawing. Nice work - having a clear drawing really helps with configuration, troubleshooting and expansion planning.
  • Post in thread: Apexium Battery Box Assembly

I'm happy to report that I contacted the vendor and they shipped a replacement panel to me via FedEx. Even though it came from Hong Kong it arrived in only 5 days. I'm pretty happy with that.
  • Post in thread: For 48V systems (which can achieve 56V) where do you folks source things like breakers?

I am not a fan of breakers on the battery side of the system. A properly sized fuse and a battery switch is a more reliable solution, IMHO. Victron sells 275 amp battery switches for about $35 - put one on each battery feed in place of the 58V 200 amp breaker in your diagram. If you need to take...
