  • Post in thread: 2MW agrivoltaic design - design constraints for inverter

"Do you walk to school or bring your lunch?" These concepts are orthogonal to each other. You've got some of the concepts right, but there are a lot of missing pieces, though if your client is really going to build a student-designed grid-scale array, he deserves what he gets. Don't get me...
  • Post in thread: Vacuum won't bring mini-split line set to minus 30

That your pump will pump down to -30 and your guage reads properly. Now find your leak
  • Post in thread: 4 X class solar flares to impact this weekend.

I hate it when that happens! Me after the stroke of midnight at Y2K: "Anyone want to buy a generator?" 8*)
  • Post in thread: Live Ground Shocked 5 Year Old

No good deed goes unpunished. Illegitimi non carborundum I used to have a T-shirt that read: does anal retentive have a hyphen?
  • Post in thread: One cell going over voltage

They let you keep the old ones? In that case, float charging at an appropriate voltage that will cause them to balance for a few weeks (!) might be your first/easiest fix.
  • Post in thread: Condo Solar

I can only imagine how my condo assn would respond. I’d probably have to use a stopwatch. 🤪
  • Post in thread: EG4 18KPV - What not to do in parallel

I dunno, you reported this Wednesday, they've had two days, in my labs it'd take about 2 hours to replicate the issue and start the ECO process (they've already patched the manual). Maybe they are still understanding the engineering issues involved and deciding on the best solution, but I'd...
  • Post in thread: Parallel battery discharge

If they are in parallel the voltages must be (are) the same. Where are you reading SOC when in open-loop?
  • Post in thread: Massive Texas power outage

Anyone else get Omega Man (the original) vibes from this? 😁
  • Post in thread: EG4 18KPV - What not to do in parallel

You’re not wrong. This conversation has wandered far afield into “how could this happen” and “how could this have missed testing and/or engineering review”, and “how come nobody else saw this” which doesn’t detract from “This should never happen”.
  • Post in thread: Too many projects, now where did I put that...

Well, it's all in her name (Amazon Key can't deliver to more than one person at the same address, sigh), and she's the CFO, but "Oh, don't open that, it's a present for you!"
  • Post in thread: Semtive wind tubine

My VAWT produced power at almost exactly $100/KWHR from the time I put it up to the time I took it down so it wouldn't fall on my solar array. Solar is a big win here. Well, to be fair, it has some residual value, I used one of the clamp fittings as a hammer to help open one of the boxes on my...
  • Post in thread: Why I have trust issues on chinese products

Some Amazon AC meters, cheap and useless.
  • Post in thread: Where to Store Solar Components and Batteries in Cold Climates

Don’t dig a foxhole just for your solar stuff, it’s probably less expensive to add a utility room. Put it in a leanto attached to the house. At least that won’t flood.
  • Post in thread: Need a way to bottle or can excess solar production.

And if your batteries aren't full you need more panels.
  • Post in thread: New Tariffs in the States

So buy the panels now, and if you don’t move in three months, they will be more valuable and you can sell them for a profit.
  • Post in thread: Joe Biden Edition battery now available!

The BMS in the Bigly Battery consistently over-reports capacity. 😁
  • Post in thread: (updated) Signature Solar 48v Chargeverter

There you go with that “should” thing again. 😁 I can’t buy V1 and I want Chargeverters, so I preordered a couple of V2. 🤷‍♂️ If EG4 fixes their firmware I’m happy, if they don’t I’ll live with it or figure out a workaround or something. Heck, if my system has enough margin I may not even need...
  • Post in thread: 18 month DIY project finally done: 39kW inverter power off grid system

  • Post in thread: Half price electric cars

Hey, I just escaped from Taxachusetts, now I is Florida Man! 😁
  • Post in thread: EG4 18KPV - What not to do in parallel

That’s QA’s whole job. Test for everything you can think of and everything nonsensical and every weird corner case.
  • Post in thread: My battery's full!

Either share the bills with them or let the power fail in the middle of the night. 🤑 #SkinInTheGame
  • Post in thread: This Might Be The Fastest Way to Double U.S. Grid Capacity

At the end of the day, the only income stream the power company has is the rate payers, so one way or another the ratepayers are going to pay the cost of any grid upgrades.
  • Post in thread: Has anyone come across a good, low power, surround sound technique?

You are overthinking it, doesn’t compare to most electrical heating appliances (240V water heaters, stoves, ovens, etc) Heck, if it plugs into the wall it’s gotta be under 15 amps, 1800W
  • Post in thread: It's not a real project until...

Spending money on parts and then losing track of the project in the months that it takes for everything to arrive. “Hmm, wonder what project (in what country) that’s for, unless it’s for general stock (in which country?). I’ll just put it over here till I remember.” My wife swears she brought...
  • Post in thread: My wife hates extension cords please help

Look on Amazon for Cord Hider or Raceway, also available at most Big Box hardware stores.
  • Post in thread: LiFePO4 bloat and gassing

The subject is LFP, the above appears to be ‘regular’ lithium
  • Post in thread: 24V DC wiring in the cabin worthwhile?

What could possibly go wrong? 🤪 I like the separate Romex idea better, then it’s trivial to switch to all 120Vac
  • Post in thread: Philips may have created the best LED bulb yet

With the right socket you could adjust the color temperature by hand! Now we need a new UI for the bulb, rotate for color temperature and lift up and down for brightness?
